HDD Thermometer is a hard disk temperature monitoring tool. It has all the features needed to prevent overheating and possible data loss.

Nifty little thing!

I like the sound of that. I don't trust these 7200rpm Seagates one little bit...

I've had too many Barracuda's fail on me. It seems like they don't like hot environments and for some reason the don't like being swapped around either.

I've got a Seagate 5400rmp which I really misteat badly and it goes on and on...

The next one'll be a WD or a Maxtor

I personally will never get a WD ever again, iv had 2 of them die on me for no reason, and of corse right after the warranty expired :( go figure. I will only buy Maxtor, they are supper reliable.

*pats maxtor 200Gb hdd*

;)

however, i only had only 187, 5Gb for system recovery and 8Gb was lost, they told me that i could get a new one and wait about 2 months for a technician to comeround and fit it for me, or live with it. Well, i was damned if i was gonna wait 2 months for a technician, tsch, damn savastore, i wouldnt use them again thats for sure, and i warn you of them to!

A year ago we have a sort of project at work to swap out every 7200 Maxtor HD. With the quantity of hard drives we use we're able to gather failure statistics that most people and companies can't, and the Maxtor's were exceptionally unreliable, even compared to other hard drive brands (they all fail all the time). Their 5400 RPM drives haven't proved to be too much more reliable, either.

Back on topic though, that looks like a really nice program. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with my RAID array :( :D

what hard drives do you recomend? SATA ones that is.

I've always liked and trusted Maxtor, and never had one fail on me.

*fails to resist the temptation to go OT*

Almost every SATA drive on the market right now has an almost exact sibling in PATA form. In fact, almost every SATA drive manufacturer actually makes their SATA drives with PATA chipsets just like the PATA version, and then just sticks a PATA to SATA converter chip on. The sole exception is Seagate, who makes actual native SATA drives, but again the drives themselves are pretty much identical to their PATA versions. WD's Raptor series is the only one without a PATA equivalent, as WD doesn't sell a PATA version (though like WD's other SATA drives, the SATA Raptors are PATA with a SATA convertor).

Or, in other words, ignore PATA vs SATA when considering the reliability of either right now.

Seagate is the brand of _IDE_ drive I recommend as being the most reliable.
