I'll leave it up to a vote, as I'm on the fence...

Should these two forums be combined?

Server Software (except control panels - see below)
Problems & discussions about software: ftp, mail, uptime monitoring, secure certs., mySQL, Linux flavors, etc.

Control Panels & Systems
Discuss anything related to control panels and server control systems, free and paid.

You make the call. Your decision is final.

Well a control panel is a type of server software... so I say combine 'em. It saves me time from browsing another forum too. ;)

Just my $4.95 (shipping and handling not included)

No, I think they should stay seperate -- right now it is not too much of a problem, but as the board gets busier, having them seperate will be more important. Control panels are just too unique of a beast to be lumped in with other server software.

Combine for now :D

I'd say leave it separate.

This kind of goes back to the "different levels / different interests" idea I pitched about the tutorial formats. Folks such as myself, who is still reselling, don't have much active day-to-day interest in server programs, OS, administration, et cetera. We will one day (at least that's the eventual goal), but right now we're still focused on a subsection of software tools used to run the business.

According to my book on community building, they say to initially lump things together, and then when things pick up, get more and more specific with forum topics. It made sense to me, but its up to you :)

I would say leave them separate, otherwise you will end up splitting them a bit down the track anyway when you get more members. The population is increasing rapidly, so it will save extra work later on ;)

OK, just a point... If you're idea is to combine them only to have them separated a few months (maybe year-ish) later, then I'm just going to leave them apart and save myself hours of work later. I'm not saying that things wouldn't be split as needed, however since they are so closely related, it is either split 'em or combine 'em. It's been 4 months and they've been apart, I look in each and people seem to have posted control panel threads in the Control Panels Forum and other software in the Software Forum, so it seems orderly.

Control Panels warrants its own forum IMHO. Then all the rest can go in a second forum.

I think I've said they should be combined before, but now I'm thinking you should keep them seperate. There's enough activity in both to warrant it IMHO.

I guess I can see the other side of it now... control panels are different enough and can warrant enough questions alone, so there really is no reason to combine them and risk having to split them again.

But I still have to stand strong with my original thoughts because, to quote Billy Joe, "I wanna be the minority."
