View Full Version : mac users unite!
so, how many people here are running osx?
us zealots need to gather together you know! ;)
good to hear mate, longtime user or switcher?
I didn't start using the mac platform at home (i used to work alot with print so mac os9 was a given at most places) until sometime around 2001, when osx came.
It's the only platform that allows me to do exactly what I want; unix and photoshop, without the hassle...
Can't say long time users. I'm a PC person @ Home and a Mac @ Work. Currently using a iMac and a G5. I lovvee macs.. too damn expensive.
yeah I guess the initial price is too high, but the resale value is great, and often they'd last longer too..
Only one cmoputer in my house runs OSX. Apart from that all Windows or RH Enterprise.

I was running the trial version of os x until it expired and my os reverted back to the os 9 that came with my g4. But unlike win 98, os 9 is pretty stable and works pretty well so I haven't seen a need to upgrade back to os x yet. I can't say this about win since I had to upgrade my win 98 to win xp just to give my computer some kind of stability.

Mac is something that people use when they get sick of Windows crashing all the time, but then get frustrated by the high prices and incompatible software and then go back to using Windows against their will ;)

Haha, for me personally a mac is actually cheaper than a pc in the long run, since I pretty much only game on consoles these days.
Never had an issue with software though, actually it was worse on windows, can't compile alot of gnu stuff there :)
I switched to PC a while back based on economics (couldn't afford a new G4 notebook). So I bought a new notebook, all the software I needed, a docking station, mouse, keyboard, speaker system, printer and still had money left over.
Of course, I wish I just had a Mac now :D

I just purchased a 14 inch iBook. I'm a PC guy by default but I'm working on learning a Mac. So far I just love OS X.

Yeah, same here, the startup cost for a mac may be a few bucks more, but once you have it for 4 years, you'll see the difference.
Running unix programs is my favorite feature. :D
PC for desktop and Mac for portability.
I'm same as Robert, PC and Home and Mac at Work, Don't really like mac's :baghead:

Just want to know is there a reason, or you're just used to PC's.
But anyway, I usually run Gentoo Linux on my mac's also, or OpenBSD.:p:

The ones I use constantly crash and they give us the mice that look like (http://www.insanely-great.com/reviews/mouse.jpg) I don't like the single button and the keys aren't where i'm used to so I can't touch type

That mouse, and probably computer is out of date.
What OS version do you have. Make sure you are using 9.2 at least.
If you don't like the mouse or keyboard, get another one.;)
I run Linux on all my home and work computers but am thinking about getting the new eMac ($799 direct) just for grins and because OS X is so dang sexy.
I've read great reviews on this one. Any advice from you guys (and gals)? I'm just wanting to expand my knowlege of OS X (from nothing now).

The new eMacs or iMacs are great for begginers to the wonderful Mac OS.
Not much I can say, the mac os was made to be easy to use, and it's Unix-Based so it's right down your alley. :p:
