GoDaddy has sale going on for $6.95 for .com domains. Before that the lowest I'd seen them was $6.49 at ev1 (not including those enom accounts and stuff like that). Good time to pick up some .com's.

Ahh!! The age old art of recommendation! :p: Maybe you could open another thread detailing why you don't like GD? It's just I use GD and wonder why some people despise them.

Thanks for letting me know, arpmn, I hadn't a clue!! Just as well as I'm about to register another 5 domains tonight hehe :)

Thank you once again,

Thank you once again,

Where do we start? Lost domains ending up in other peoples accounts. Hours spent on the phone and email to get them back. several tries to get my names moved out of there. I can go on and on.

You are definately in the minority swiftdomain.
I have been using Godaddy for about 18 months almost exclusively and have never had a single problem.
Combine that with the price and I can't imagine going with anyone else.

Same here. Over the years I've used...registerfly, enom, my domain, register, network solutions, and Go Daddy is the one I like best. I now use them exclusively (except for a couple I have at ev1 because I wanted to check them out when they were offering domains for under $5.30 or whatever it was). I guess I've been lucky I haven't had any problems with Go Daddy in over 2 years.

We have used godaddy for about 2 years also, no problems, athough we have ust got a reseller account with Directi and Enom, Althogh on lots of forums you see people with some big problems with godaddy, we have had no problems at all with them, quite cheap also, they have some good sales every now and again

The domain swapping problem was experienced by only 15% of their customers (I rang Bob to confirm this). This was due to a merger of their databases into one big database. Hours on the phone? Well who can say that wasn't inevitable? They have hundreds of thousands of domains registered, 10% of that is still a lot and consider each person ringing and talking to a rep.

You say the list can "go on and on"... so please do. Bulleted or numbered, either way I'd like a list to justify your post :)

So this is a "minor" nuisance it seems by your tone? Well it impacted over 500 domains nearly 98% of my clients. They did not think it was minor as implied by you, it impacted their business and my business. The response by godaddy was quite vague and cryptic to teh point denying there was an issue. I am aware many other clients were affected so the issue was not as minor as you think. I also had multiple billing issues and problems getting my names out of their greasy clutches.

Heh, thanks for your response. We all got an opinion I guess, you're entitled to yours as I am to my own. Nice to see that list though...

Who do you recommend for DN registration?

They're who's responsible for killing the entire retail level domain name market. By cutting out the retailers and selling wholesale to the public, they sold out the entire industry, and an entire price level... Just to grab a slightly larger share of the market and eliminate competition.

When you look around and see the run-down nature of the domain name industry, that is what Godaddy did for us.

What Godaddy did for me is save me hundreds of dollars on domain registrations.

For that I thank them.

I was just thinking, it did one other thing too...

Until Enom 'let us back in', it forced all of us little guys to stay at (the old) retail prices (around $15 min. then) and out of their way while they made their 'surge'. Interesting, maybe that was the main reason.

I think godaddy did it to grab more marketshare. Since tehy raised the pricing I am assuming they got what they needed out of the promo

Exactly! Although it's awful for resellers it's awesome for the consumer. Now we don't have to pay inflated prices just to feed off an entire industry of price gougers. Once the domain industry monopoly was gone then the prices started tumbling. Makes it cheaper to domain prospect as well.

Well, I would be inclined to agree with you guys but the only problem is that I was already buying names for $8 for a more than a year prior. :)

Back then, you had to work a little bit, but they were there. They required a $500 payment upfront too. A small price to pay enable a whole 'seperate class', ie.retail.

What kills me is all the registrars who don't seem to have even noticed, hehe. Is register.com still getting $30/yr.? NSI - $35? I know DirectNic is still getting $15... But how can anyone be that out-of-it and don't know that anyone can get them for $7 or $8 now?

It seems like they'd at least have *accidently* hit an Enom or Godaddy ad by this late date, LoL.

Thay did raise their price? When was that, right after they killed the market? I know the whole story from my first $100 name in '96 up to that point, then I lost interest and didn't follow Godaddy specifically or much anything else until Enom came along.

It all worked out... The important thing is that everyone can get a cheap name now, and thank God that Net Sol was 'busted up' (Which I think it's about time to do AGAIN, btw).

There will always be people who will pay 35.00, 25.00 or evenm 15.00 for their domains

Well ... I'm one of those minority then. But what I don't like most is that when THEY made a mistake and messed things up, they never apologize (by covering up on the contrary, although I could understand that), and I (who had done nothing wrong) had to do extra work (e.g. faxing in corporate/personal ID) in order to get my domains back.

By the way, their user interface and backend are clumsy. Can't help them there: they have to hire some better hands. LOL!

And have any one read the TOS (between the line) while booking those reduced price sale on .com on Godaddy.

Although my experience has been absolute pleasure with them since 20-Apr-01 but still I wonder if you people have read TOS carefully.

That's a real nice price but I ended up paying $8.95 for two domains for this month. Oh well.

I am not a big godaddy fan. To each their own
