From what they noted on their page about the merchant holding funds, and what we can read by the hundreds/?thousands? of angry clients searching just about any public community on the subject. I can't help but to wonder if they didn't end up with a huge number of chargebacks and other various complaints that could have rightfully caused the freeze.

That seems the best speculation I've seen anywhere so far.

I do know that they treat their vendors like total garbage as well, which could be why they weren't willing to "work" with them.

That's probably a good bet -- I can't think of any other reason the merchant company would hold funds. Just about any other reason could open the merchant company to a lawsuit.
