How would I go about copying everything from my main machine running outlook 6 to my laptop running outlook express 6. I need to move mail, accounts, everting over. Is there any easy way to do this? Thanks

Yes, outlook gives you the ability to export/import folders. I don't use it, so I am not sure how it is done, but maybe Roseanne can tell you -- she has done it several times.

Alright. I tried the export command (File->Export) and it only works for Exchange servers. I think I'm doing it the wrong way though.

On each "mailbox" on the right hand side, where it says "Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Drafts" and what not. click on each and right click and click "Properties". Copy the "location" address and goto that folder. Copy all those *.dbx files to your laptop and place them in the same place where you found them.

Will that save the account settings to or do I have to re-add them all? (There's like 40 accounts)

That won't save the account settings, and I couldn't find any info on how to save these settings. I suppose I'll mention the account autosetup thing in cPanel (if you're using a cPanel server), which might help a bit.

Check out this program. http://www.totalidea.com/frameset-outsource.htm

Outsource XP appears to be just for Outlook XP but here's what it does:

OutSource-XP automatically collects all important Outlook 2002 files, and lists them for you. The only thing you have to do is to choose the files (and settings) you want to backup, and click a single button to start the backup creation. The unregistered version of OutSource-XP saves the files into a pre-selected ‘backup-folder’, but does not compress the files. The registered version compresses the backup into one single file, and offers a ‘Quick-Backup’ feature which creates a backup just with a single mouseclick.

I've been thinking of trying this so I don't have to re-add all the account settings each time I reload. Saving the .PST files where I keep my e-mail is a breeze. It's just those stinkin' account settings.

Hmm I'll have to try that Mark. Thanks for the link

Chicken: Not a CPanel server, but don't think that matters too much. What I'm trying to do is just move all of my mail and settings to my laptop

Hrm, the export works for me (no exchange server here) however, it doesn't export the account settings, only the mailboxes and address book.... Any of the other things I would suggest were already suggested too.... such as directly copying the outlook files over, etc.... I did a little looking around on the web and couldn't find anything! :(

with the accounts, you must export them under the account dialog, which is separate from the standard export commands for like the mail and stuff like that.

All my scamming operations. JK. I have several personal accounts. On most of my domains that I'm going to do something with (hopefully) I have a "info account". And then I have several customer service accounts.

I believe that the best solution are some software like "Outlook Backup"(don't remember the exact name) or something like that. I've heard that backups everything for you, although I have never tried them.

Hmm, that does look good. Too bad they don't have a version for Outlook (not Express). At least I couldn't see one from looking at their site.
