I would like to know what people that are using ClientExec feel about it, and what you feel are its downfalls and its advantages are.

We use ClientExec. It is pretty customizeable and has a lot of features. The only drawbacks for me are the lack of recurring billing options for 2CheckOut, limited support desk and some limitations on integrations with CPanel and other control panels (but they are beta testing integration with CPanel now).

For the price you can't go wrong.

Ok, I am looking for something that is going to go well with cPanel for sure, and that has automated provisioning as well, and it doesn't look like it has that either. I will have to go with another panel then, though I would like to here from more people on this.

CPanel is great but automation is does NOT do (at this point). An API is being developed for the software for v1.5 (IIRC) that will allow 3rd parties to create automations cripts etc etc. but at this point the software is still very young.

I use it and have taylored it to the layout of my website. Very robust system. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of all the other software but what it does do, it does well.

I think the major idea behind CE is "Less is more". Some people prefer this approach but it's all up to you, obviously.

The price tag is definately what sold it for me. As a host when I was starting out sometime back it was the perfect solution and at this point I'm starting to grow out of it. Either way, there is a lot planned.

I recommened you talk to Alberto (and gang) on their forums and also search around for their "roadmap" so you can see the plans in store for this software.

(i'm in no way affiliated with CE other than i am a happy customer)

I believe Alberto said this was coming sooner than that.

I wouldn't call (possibly) one other developer a "gang" myself, as it's my understanding that there are just 2 working on this, Alberto and one other (no proof either way, though). The roadmap was removed long ago. Apparently, people were holding them to this schedule and getting upset when they didn't meet the projected dates. Software development is often like that...
I stopped using CE, and don't visit their board any longer, so maybe they've reinstated the roadmap?

As for Cpanel provisioning, there are several. WHMAP (Autopilot) can do this but is currently limited to Cpanel. A new version is in the works and expected to release sometime this spring (March/April). This new version has an impressive list of additions. It's currently near the same price of CE ($149, but often have sales). The developer is quite responsive to problems and easily reachable.

Automation will be coming out with the next version (1.2) but there's a client plugin that allows it that's already out for version 1.1.1. I love ClientExec, you couldn't pay me to switch.

I have decided that I will be using WHMAutoPilot, just not enough good feedback at all on this script and it just lacks the automation features that I am looking for. I don't want to get used to a script and need to upgrade later away from it because it no longer suits the needs it was gotten for.

Glad we could help :D

bear, i recognize the name. I haven't visited in a while myself. I remember the roadmap being there but I got tired of waiting for releases and I really believe in "the watched pot never boils". So I rarely check these days.

I'm actually considering another solution right now, not because CE is doing a poor job, it's just I'm out growing it and I'm requiring something a little more robust. ;) Either way, cheers.
