FDC Servers

When getting my first dedicated server, i was searching high and low
for a company that offered good hardware and nice connection speed
at a cost i could afford.

Below is the specification off the server i had with FDC and the cost.

- AMD XP 2400+
(actual speed 2ghz)
- 512MB RAM
- 120GB HDD 7200RPM

- 100Mbit port
- 10Mbit unmetered connection
- XO, YIPES, Cogent backbones
- BGP4 routing protocol
- FREE IPs (arin rules)
- UN-METERED bandwidth
- no overage fees
- setup within 8 hours

Purchase with REDHAT + Cpanel&WHM
$159/month

Ok when they first setup my account i was so pleased, setup taken around
2hours, had no problem with anything, cpanel worked a treat, this was
all accessed via the dedicated IP's i had given to me, i ordered more ips
from FDC Servers for my custom nameservers, about 1day later my domain
was active on the new server, did a whois on my nameserver, they didnt work
at all, so i contacted FDC Servers, they didnt understand what the problem
was and also there forums didnt have such problem highlighted, after about 1
weel off being realy angry with things, i emailed Cpanels support
they fixed it within 5minutes off my email and login details.

Support with FDC Servers are very good, there email response is good
sometimes when a billing problem accures they will tell you to email
there other email address which wound me up, because it wouldnt be to
hard to send my email to there other department.

Payment monthly via paypal has been smooth no problems at all with this.

Connection, there connection speed isnt the greatest in the world,
infact it sucked somewhat, i didnt get my max download rate from the server
which wasnt good as i only had 3 clients and wondered strongly about
having more clients, would the download rate be so slow sites wouldnt load?

i will never know, i had 3times reported to me that the server was offline
for 1hr each, the server logs dont show this and FDC Servers say it was
online, i dont know whats wrong with that, maybe a OS problem or BIND.

After about 4months off having the server my funds went down, i had to
close my account with them, they didnt seem angry about it, and also
they kept my server online up untel the month was up!

Now looking into a server again.. 4months down the line, i wont be going with
FDC Servers only because off there connection, maybe when they sort this out
i will be back again, FDC Servers get a 6/10 rating from me, for support mainly.

Is that correct?

It is for the first time I see 10 Mbit UC for under $300

i think its a shared port. From the experiences i had with them, they always overloaded it and you were lucky to get a good connection.

Think "1mb port" when you see FDC and 10mb in the same sentence, in fact thats really not even fair because a 1mb port would offer better than 20kbps upload.

I am a previous customre of FDC as well and their service is simply pathetic at best.

They con offer unlimmited bandiwdth because you will never get more than 1.5mbit. Along with the 1.5mbit if you are lucky to get that you will get free of charge 10 - 50% packet loss.

I sent several trace routes to customer support from my server to several locations. All of which showed considerable packet loss on the firtst hop out of their network. I was told this was a result of upgrades. Upgrades that lasted for four months.

I don't disslike anyone on this earth enough to reccomend them to FDC

I have been with *** for about 2 years, while they have had many problems in the past they have made great improvements over the last 4 months.

You get what you pay for and for the price I am over all happy with ***.

We had a few servers with FDc and honestly, their Support Ticket staff was great, always getting response within an hour or less.

However, when it comes to billings and sales, they selectively ignore our emails claiming lost emails, already replied, the usual song and dance crap.

We recently had problems with a payment sent to them and provided all information to assist them in tracking that payment but they simply took our funds and ignored us.

Not really a good provider to recommend to anyone given the state of affairs they are at, presently.

Otherwise, if you are looking for just great support staff, they rank 8/10 for us.

That is poor ethics. Hosts goes to any extend to get business now a days. I am sure there are more such spammers on every web hosting forums. Good work, chicken!

I will note that this happened about 3 years ago, and provider has since apologized. We all make mistakes and an apology goes a long way in my book. :D

There is a big downtime over at FDC recently. Real big.

I know people who use them, and they haven't experienced any downtime recently... It may just be your router or ISP.

Honestly, I did house a couple of customer servers over there for a while.

The only issue i had while i was there was the packet loss on my link (i paid for dedicated bandwidth).

That being said they have since upgraded their peering network and by looking at some other servers that are there the packet loss issues is no longer an issue i believe.

But yes their support was excellent.
