Let me clarify: I will pay $75/hour for as long as it takes.

No one is interested? I thought for sure at least one tech would have some interest.

Help me out folks =)If not you, perhaps you know someone?

WINE is generally not something very easy to install and few people can do it correctly. It also doesn't work quite right most of the time as it isn't finished, as I recall it is alpha software.. I could be wrong here.

That is most likely the reason for very few replies.

Ok- I can live with that. Didn't know WINE was that difficult. I was starting to feel neglected =)

Wine installation is pretty straightforward, it just takes an age to compile. Tweaking the config to get particular apps working is where you spend a lot of time using wine.
To safely install wine you need to compile it as a normal user and install it as root so two accounts would have to be provided for the install.

Take a look at frankscorner.org for a good list of apps that work well under wine to see if it suits you.

I had internet explorer/paint shop pro and crimson editor all running fine with the 10-12-2003 build but they wont run at all under the latest build. Its a very hit and miss thing.

I just have a customer which is actually an Apple software development company who is closing development for the alpha build on a proof-of-concept for an investor meeting in the next 6 months. They want multiple MAC's to connect to the linux box at the same time via VNC and run Windows apps in a X Windows environment within the confines of WINE.

I have folks working on the back-end right now with a RedHat re-compile to make the job easier and require fewer RPM installs.
Such is my life I found. I get all the business clients with these funky requirements and tons of Advanced Services requests. Keeps your thinking cap on straight however. =)

If you are willing to spend then there are better options than wine win4lin (http://www.netraverse.com) offers a terminal version of their windows emulator for about $90 and vmware (http://www.vmware.com) seems to be the best windows virtual server for linux but its a little pricey at $330.
But with these all your windows apps will work as they install windows in a virtual environment.

In that case, why not just install Windows and be done with it =)

I see your point however. I think they need Linux file system accessible and in place for some reason.

With vmware you can choose to make the linux filesystem available to windows during the install, this sets up a samba server to allow windows to use the linux system through network neighborhood. Not to mention that you can switch back to native linux with a click of the mouse.
