I own a free hosting website, and I opened just yesterday. I received 110 uniques between then and now.. is 75 sign-ups pretty good for 110 uniques?

thats awesome, now change it to paid hosting and see if you can get the same numbers....that would be really cool.

Usually when dealing with free webhosting, if you don't make it too difficult to signup you and get a 1.5:1 visitor to signup conversion.
Good luck to you! :D

Paid webhosting is such a hassle with dealing with needy idiotic customers.
With free webhosting we can be very selective of who we host and support is optional.
Paid webhosting = :bs:
Free webhosting =

Nothing is free. How do you expect to cover your costs? If you have 100 hosts, and each cost only $0.20 to support per month (bandwidth, deprecation, utilities, cost of capital), you are spending $240/year.
If you don't want to offer support for paid hosting, that is fine, some do. At least you will cover your direct costs.
whats up with the site now - BBhoster.com is under new ownership and will NOT be hosting accounts..

I would think free hosting could be good in some respects if you sponsor a large site in exchange for a link, other then that you're just giving charity to people.

Thus the cycle of the free host. Some time between 2/21 and 3/10 it ended. I could probably offer free hosting that long ;) :D -but to really do it, and do it well (meaning sustain it for a period of over 20 days), it takes some thinking and planning.

Hmmm, maybe that would be a good way to get your site forums happening, just make the offer to give free hosting (5 meg space, 250 meg bandwidth) for a month; if they can make 25 forum posts in a month extend it for another month.
For each paying recommendation they make they get like 2 more meg or something.
(I probably won't do this, but it may be worth looking into).

I disagree, its MORE hassle giving away free space than paid clients, sure paid clients exspect more.. but least they keep the server fee going... free clients... use your bandwidth and space... and for nothing monthly, i think free hosting can be offered if you have a dedicated server purly for that and have the right common sence to make sure it isnt coming out your own profit or personal job!
sure we all start paying out our own personal funds to beginw ith but... but if you decide to start making your money back in by offering paid hosting... DO NOT use the same server because the amount traffic the free hosting has done... your server will be bit laggy... and putting clients on same server as free clients ISNT a good thing in my books,
i aint saying dont offer free hosting.. but lighten up a little to the fact that you cannot offer free hosting for ever, sooner or later the bills will be coming in then your stuned. only thing i can sudgest is maybe doing sponsered links on all accounts, buy the script that can do that, maybe you can have some investment back.
