Hello,
I'm curious as to whether anyone offers services other than hosting? Services such as Network Service, Web design, SEO, etc.. I understand the forum is hosting specific and each members situation is unique but it's been our experience that offering these extra services more often than not leads to us hosting their web site.
A foot in the door via a file server or firewall generates a lot of word of mouth as well as the chance to mention our other services. The nature of the hosting business requires most of us to be network savvy if we're to be successful so a few network gigs on the side could generate some much needed cash flow for better hardware, expanding the marketing budget, or heck that vacation to Glacier you've been putting off. ;)
Obviously it's not as simple as hanging out the shingle declaring your now a full service network company but it's not that big of a leap to being able to offer that service.
Regards,
BIll

We're plodding through February which all about our shared special, but starting in March, we will start offering a free toll-free service with 60 free minutes per month for all new dedicated server customers. So I guess you could say we also provide toll-free services for anyone who wants it. =)

Actually hosting was on our list last but we offer web development, web design, e-commerce packages etc. We were reslling hosting but decided that that was too much & we needed our own

There are a lot of options for additional services related to web hosting. Many times I've seen complimentary services such as Web Design typically offered. In addition to these, we also provide custom email (& possibly streaming services soon), web development, desktop publishing services, as well as hardware/software technical administration.
I'd say though if you want leads into hosting, you may want to start off with services more directly tied to that such as offering Web Design services since this is most directly related and then providing a few months of free hosting with the design.

Toll free numbers.... haven't considered that one. I'd be curious to see how that works for you. Good luck!
I agree web design is the obvious choice. It's a natural progression to host the web design customers site. I bet less than 10% of our web design customers host elsewhere. I guess I focused on the network service aspect due to personal experience.
Thanks for your input!

For me personally, I'm banking on businesses purchasing dedicated servers could use a toll-free number. Sure, it's a gimmick of sorts, but if you get a free toll-free phone number and 60 free minutes - shoot - I'd sign-up for one myself. =)

We offer:
1. Web Design and Development
2. Web Promotion
3. Network Services
4. Print Services
5. Hardware and Software Sales
6 Web Hosting
We started as a web design company with resold hosting and eventually added the other stuff. We are always looking to add more stuff we can offer our clients.
Domain registration is the most requested service from those who want to host with us. Most of them do not have the domain name and ask us to register it for them. But there are others who want to transfer their domain name to ours.
Then it comes script installation, they are simple and does not take too much time. Paying a few extra bucks does not bother the client and he gets more happy with the service.
Of course, web design and development as all aggree.

Aside from the obvious services (like domain registration and web design, programming services, etc.), something that all clients use such as telecom are good as everyone needs it and uses it, but at the same time ultra-competitive. I did a spell in the telecom business (faxing to be specific, but it boiled down to telecom rates), and ::shudder:: was it hard. If the service isn't general, then you won't be able to sell it, but if it's too general, you'll have to deal with intense competition to sell it.

I noticed that some companies post their rates for these additional services while others don't. What is the standard and why?

Greetings:
Our parent company -- Dynamic Net -- offers services related to managed hosting (various hosting platforms, domain name registration, and related services).
The We Manage Servers division offers services related to remote server and security management.
Between the two categories, we end up being busy.
Thank you.
