I am really pissed off at fasthosts.co.uk

We had several members on this site, and they kept billing our credit card without authorization.

We complained, but never received any response except to say that we did not read the fine print.

I am looking for a good reliable reseller who would be honest.

Anyone who knows of a cheap hosting service, please advise.

ahh, another fasthosts thread. some would say they hide behind terms and conditions, they seem to have one for every eventuality. i wouldn't say that though obveously :)

I have yet to hear anyone have a good word about Fasthosts! Surely they must have a few satisfied customers?

Indeed it is a blessing. They are one of the top 3 hosts in the UK in terms of size. Certainly not in terms of customer satisfaction or support though.

Hi Gregg

noticed your enquiry on Host hide out regarding becoming a fasthosts reseller.

Dont do it

The web firm i work for are one and they are absolutely terrible. The servers and sql keep going down and they do not give a dam about suppoet or customer services. we tried to cancel in the 30 cancel period but would have lost the money we had paid for services and databases we would be giving up.

After recieving that comment we decided not to go for them even though they offer unlimited space and bandwidth for £50 a month.

Thats unlimited until they notice that either your whole reseller a/c amounts to 10Gb or more or an individual site amounts to 2Gb or more and they ban you for
"excessive use of system resources" under their AUP and send you a huge bill.

it's a shame, they have the size and ad budget to set a standard for hosts to follow, but the up-and-down-like-a-whores-drawers in some servers, asp/compatibility issues, regular accounting issues all leave a very poor overall impression.

their ukreg domain service is actually very good, support on it is acceptable for a no-frills service through the webform

although anyone who *seriosly* thinks they're getting unlimited anything (other than agro) for £50/month needs their head testing AFAIAC ....

Talking about UKREG they have an appaling billing policy.

UK Domaisn are auto-renewed 30 days before expiry unless you click on a link they provide.

They have an auto response system for gTLD transfers that auto declines the transfer so you have to be quick.

Their billing and registration systems are not linked. If you transfer a domain away by changing the IPSTAG you may find yourself billed for the renewal by them months later. So you HAVE to watch out for the renewal reminders and click the DO NOT RENEW link even after transfering the domain.

I recently got £420 credited after they incorrectly billed me for domains I had transfered away.

Had the same problem with them ~3 years ago.

After a zillion or so e-mails (and after being billed twice for services I did not use), I decided to have my bank reverse charges. Once that was done, they finally decided to give me a call stating "we were looking into your requests, you shouldn't have asked your bank for a chargeback".. Yeah, right. :)

Very disturbing to hear they haven't improved much.

Tell you credit card company u did'nt pay for it and give them chargebacks. Then when they loose their merchant account. Maybe they will learn to treatcustomers better.

Oh dear,
If I had a penny for every customer I have heard complain about Fasthosts.

I had some dealings with them a few months back, I got what I wanted but what a heartache. They are one of the biggest hosts in the UK at the moment, but customer service, well that leaves alot to be desired.

With that said, I still use ukreg.com with out any problems what so ever.

same here - use ukreg for all me uk domains and have had not one problem.

on the other hand though all i hear is bad things about their hosting, shame really as they are 8 miles down the road from me......

I use www.123-reg.co.uk as my domain registrar, and Justahost, maybe it's time to pay Fasthosts a little visit.... :bonkhead:
