I was reinstalling xp (shock horror) and went to install my beloved Microsoft image composer 1.5 only to discover a scratch on the disc. :cry2:

Now i know its a basic program, but i don't do graphics so it has been really good for the odd bits i do here and there.

Microsoft have stopped supporting the program so i can't get at it any more.

Can anybody recomend a nice graphics program that does that sort of thing (web dithered text, graphics cropping, etc) which is easy to learn (i only use it occasionaly so don't want to spend the next month working out how to get it to place the word help on a sheet) and cheap :)

thanks all.

Just so you are aware, Microsoft Image Composer is also available on the Microsoft Office 2003 CD. If you have that, you should be able to run the install of just Image Composer if needed.

I would either get Jasc [ http://www.jasc.com/ ] Paint Shop Pro 8 or Adobe [ http://www.adobe.com/ ] Photoshop Elements 2.

Both are around $99 and (in my opinion) easy to learn.

IrfanView is a rather popular graphic manipulation freeware:

I have played with it for a while. Quite easy to use for simple tasks, but is very minimal feature-wise when compared to Photoshop of course. Hope this helps. :)

I use office 2000. Ive never had any cause to upgrade to 2003 for my home computers.

on the photoshop front i was hoping to not have to spend quite that much. no real need. I've got a copy of psp at work somewhere. perhaps i'll have to borrow it. :)

Hey there...I answered you on WHT for this, but maybe you didn't see the reply? I have your program for you on a FrontPage 98 disk I was given (legally, with license) by a client a few years ago.

Drop me a line, and it's yours for the shipping/postage.

Image Composer is a great little program. I complained to Microsoft once when I learned they stopped making it. They felt nobody was using it because they weren't getting support requests. I just figured it was the one program they made that actually worked...

i know loads of people who used it and loved it. microsoft just can't deal with no support requests, makes them feel special to get emails all the time :D
