I did not know you american types called the pub, well the pub. Is this a local thing or is this something that is yank wide?

if we can only start to get you to call 'soccer' by its correct name :D

We call it a bar. But than again, we dont' call it a bar. We don't have "bars". We have clubs...

Club or bar depends where you're at. Soccer is soccer and football (American) is football :D.

I beg to differ.

Here in Australia we call football either soccer or european football :D

As for pubs - yes we have them as well as clubs. I'm a member of the local leagues club but that's it.

In the states it's bar instead of pub but most people know what a pub is anyway. I was in London last March and I went on my first pub crawl I've been to many bar crawls, club crawls but this was my first pub crawl. Funny the end result is the same no matter what you call it a headache! :yuck:

Are hangovers called hang overs in your neck of the woods?

they are hang overs here too. also called planks, but thats a very local thing :)

in the uk pubs, bars and clubs are three very different things.

i.e.
pub: horse & hounds. sit around, have a beer or ten.
bar: metz bar or other 'trendy' name. more formal. rules start to apply.
club: gatecrasher or other flava of dance-esq name. dancing only. you 'go clubbing' but only actually do the singular and go to one club. prepare to pay for entry and defend your footwear to the 'bouncer'

ok, so most of the world.

at any rate the aussies don't play football as far as i can work out. we have you distracted with cricket and rugby. [evil voice] the fools, our evil plan to distract them with our 'teams' continues allowing them never to sport a proper football team.... ha ha ha.... spluter [/evil voice]

:D

Most people here tend to call it a bar, but after spending some time in europe I tend to call them pubs around here. It depends on the type of place it is, but if its a small local place more people refer to them as a pub, and your larger and more chain styles are more often bars :)

I suppose we call 'pubs' dive bars here. Your average dive bar isn't fancy, certainly nothing upscale. They tend to often only have crappy brews on tap though, which is a downfall. Good dive bars at least have something respectable flowing. I know I'm always in trouble when the darkest beer they have is a Corona or a Bass.

Some of the micro-brewerys are popular here as well. At least the beer is good!

Clubs usually involve dancing or some sort of music. That's where pansies go to drink :D. Real men like their bars with nothing but lots o' cheap beer. Iron City Lite Rules!!
