ARGHHHH, so frustrating.
My work laptop is in dire need of having winXP and mandrake 9 reinstalled. BUT I CAN'T FREEKING FIND MY CDS! I can find disk 2 for mandrake, for my XP CD is nowhere to be found. At least I can download the mandrake ISO, but I know for a fact these CDs are here somewhere.
The bad thing is, it is my legit winXP CD and the case with the key, I have my backup copy, but doesn't do much good w/o my key anyway :[ :[ :[

What is the deal with reinstalling something such as WinXP? Is it pretty much the same as reinstalling any other Windows version? I thought it had some sort of call-home thing or the inability to reinstall? Or is it no problem on the exact same machine, but only problematic if you rebuild a machine or upgrade parts of it? I just got a laptop with XP installed, and just wonder for the future.

with XP it has a feature where it does take your hardware config and "call" microsoft to activate it. So if you build a new computer, or replace most of the hardware and then reinstall XP, it will be like "Woah... settle down there cowboy" and try to say you can't install it, which you have to call MS and have them reset your activation... blah blah.
But if you reinstall it on the same machine it was on, you won't notice anything different. It just uses the call home thing to stop you from lending the disk to your buddy so he can install it on his machine.
..so what are you trying to say? You want a copy of mine? hehe. j/k.
Mandrake 9.1 is out, so if you like to have their latest and greatest it's time to reburn it anyways.
