View Full Version : Need Domain Suggestions
Hi,
Ive searched long and hard, but all the domains I can think of are already taken, and Im not the creative type, so I was hoping you could help me choose an email domain.
This domain would be used for a HiveMail installation, so it would be for people that get free email. The website is MITeacher.com, MI = Michigan, Teacher = Teacher. Its for Michigan Teachers (get it, get it?) Any suggestions for domains? Thanks.

I'm confused why not just use MITeacher.com?
Because I want to offer additional domains also, give 'em a choice. :)

I was wondering the same, heh. So no mail.miteacher.com eh? And I like how you explained the domain, as last time I was the only one who didn't get it, hee hee. My guess is that general names relating to free email have been swallowed up about 10 years ago, so you're either going to aim for interests, careers, or just weird crap that people will think is cool, like...
Free email! Choose from:
harleyriders.com
ilove2teach.com
toadsuckpark.com
(OK, so I own that last one, but...) :D :chicken:
Chicken,
LOL! That was great. Teachers using "harleyriders.com" I just cant see happening. I tried TeacherMail, TeacherWeb, but of course all of those are taken. I got YouTeach.com, but that doesnt make too much sense, or does it?

Usually, it's not particularly impressive to combine an acronym AND a word in naming domains, but since your website has already been named appropriately MITeacher.com, you might want to try something like MITeaching.com or MIEducator(s).com which all align with your existing domain.
An alternative way of naming your e-mail domain would be using the full word "Michigan", like MichiganEducator(s).com or even MichiganED.com, the other way round of MIEducator/Teacher.com.
Personally, I prefer MichiganTeaching.com. Full words are a bit longer, but they render clear meaning and are good for search engines. I had been a high school teacher/administrator for more than 7 years before, and my take is that even if they actually ride a Harley, they don't want to brag about it! :D
nameslave,
Great suggestions, thanks. MITeacher.com not set in stone, in fact I havent even starting putting all the pieces together. Can you think of any other good named that would be good for michigan educators? Students will be viewing their homework posts at http://whatever.domain.com, so I need it to my sorta short. Thanks :)
Don't know if you want to consider offbeat TLDs, and how much you're willing to spend. You could register "teacher.tc" through Register.com (http://www.register.com/) for $75/year. Other resellers (see www.nic.tc (http://www.nic.tc)) might charge even less. There's a list of country-code TLDs at http://www.ccregistrars.com/cctlds.html. Many of them sell second-level domain names to anyone willing to pay, regardless of location.
(These are real top-level domains, not the fake ones offered by "alternative" registrars, in case you were wondering.)

Thanks for the idea, but Im not a huge fan of the alternative TLDs. Once Register.com was giving away free .cc registrations so I got a few (that was with their $1 a domain deal), but besides that Ive never really found them to catch on. I try to stick with the .coms, though I have a few .net and .orgs for personal use.
Good idea though, nice to see someone think outside the box.
Makes sense ... how about these:
teacher-mail.com
teachersmail.com
teachers-mail.com
(I don't like hyphens, and teachermail.com is taken, so I'd go with teachersmail.com even though people might confuse it with teachermail.com. Then again, given your market you might want a .org anyway.)
If you are a sportsfan, you can incorporate the Michigan State mascot and go for:
teachingspartans.com
spartanteachers.com

You are about Michigan Teachers needing email? I have an idea....
Michigan = "M"
teachers = "T"
MT is actually pronounced "empty"... so
So... try:
http://www.emptyemail.com
http://www.emptymail.com
Just a thought =)
