I can do this for $6,000 per month with XO bandwidth.
Let me know.
Regards,
Rob
$6,000 a month??? are you kidding with me thats unreal? I realise i will be transfering alot of data, approx 5TB a month, but my actual bandwidth usage at any one time will not go above 30mbit/s. I require only one domain, and absolutely nothing special with the server! No websites will be hosted and only one user service required to run.
On the plus side, i can garuntee upto 3000 simultaneous users at pretty much anytime. Maybe we can do something with this? I'm not a company I am but 1 person so you can imagine my budget doesnt stretch to business levels.
Plz get back to me if you have any info now that you know my actual requirements. Thanks

Then you don't need unmetered 100mbit connectivity. More along the lines of an unmetered (but burstable) 10mbit connection? I think you're going to have detail exactly what you need in order to get accurate quotes.

Then why did you ask for a 100mbit port???
I can do pricing at $60/mbit so 30 mbits would be $1800/month.
Roberto,
Is your XO Feed in Chicago?

I have the following available (located in California, seeing we are a CA-based webhost):
1. Fully-secure locking cabinet with a 100mbit pipe (fully burstable, not capped) at just $2600/month (~$26/mbit) No Cross Connects. This may be preferred - particularly for growth.
Electricity and IP's provided at no charge
2. High-performance linux or FreeBSD dedicated servers at just $99/month that each comes with their own bandwidth plans at close to 1TB bandwidth, should that suit your fancy. 10 of those mamma-jammas = 10TB aggregate monthly bandwidth and 10 machines. If you know anything about clustering (bewolf/mosix), that would be some serious hardware redundancy for just a little over $1000/month.
Bandwidth Measurement
Bandwidth usage will be calculated by CalHost using the 95th percentile of samplings taken at 5 minute intervals on a monthly basis. Samples are taken by CalHost via SNMP from the CalHost switch or router port you are directly connected to and is the greater of input or output bits per second. 95th percentile is determined by sorting the sample data from smallest to largest and discarding the top 5 percent, with the remaining largest sample designated as the 95th percentile.
Good luck in your research!

$6,000 ??
I'd say more like $3,000...
Anyway.. he doesn't need a full dedicated 100 mbps line, so I wouldn't recommend him to get one :)
But he's not responding anymore, so appearantly he has found what he was looking for elsewhere....

Keep your comments to yourself. What a company charges is what they charge. No one wants to read this when it has already been discussed earlier in the thread.

Is this in the Chicago Board of Trade with 24/7 Unescorted Access?

Wow easy.. no offence intended!
It was my intention to let the TS know around what prices he can expect from us. You're right when you say I shouldn't have done that in a reply to your post. My apologies.

Price in this market is a determine by service level and network quality.
In US, $3000 gets you a cogent feed. An XO feed is worth about $6000

Yes, this is in the Chicago Board of Trade Building.
Visitors must be escorted on weekends and between 6pm-7am on regular week days. During regular business hours, security allows unescorted access, but the visitor still has to go through security, sign in, provide picture ID and than security verifies with the datacenter over the phone whether the visit is expected.

Unless you work at my company, in which case the quote I provided earlier is actually Cogent-free. :)
But you are correct- you can have many different types of bandwidth which can dramatically affect costs.
<Approaching the limits on what I no longer know but what my techs do>
ie InterNap bandwidth (an aggregate of high quality providers) can run you a pretty penny (popular amonst gameserver providers where ping is everything)
AboveNet, GlobalCrossing, ATT/Sprint, etc is less expensive
Cogent and related is as you correctly-denoted: lowest/cheapest feeds in general.

True. Ours is Cogent free too. It's even European traffic, which normally is more expensive than traffic is in the USA...

Will this be on FDC's IP?
Roberto

You can use either 2 IPs directly from XO, but if you need more, you will need to use IPs off of the FDC network.
Do you think you can get a block of IP out of XO?
Roberto
01-21-04, 01:43 PM
no, because the DC has a direct IP allocation from ARIN.
Thanx anyways. I went with a Level3 reseller.
