I'm looking for a technology news script for a specific website. I need something that will either scroll tech news or change on a regular basis. Basically something that can be installed which gathers information from other sites. Does anyone know of anything like this? I'm looking in the usual scripts sites but thought I'd check here as well. And of course, free is best! :)

Thanks,

Just use an RSS feed. There are several RSS newsscripts and newsfeed sites you can pull from. If you have a particular site you would like stories from, check with them to see if they have a newsfeed you could pull from. This is something built into some portals nowadays and is one of the reasons we nuked our site. A few clicks and we've got newsfeeds if we want them.

This sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. Now the question is, how do I make it work? Is there a site or resource that explains this in the most simplest terms? I've found a few that go over what RSS is and how to use it but I'm still not making any ground. I've even found several sites that have the links I'd need to use this but this is the first time I'm doing something of this nature. Thanks for any help that anyone can provide... :)

I'm not sure how other scripts do it, but in PostNuke, you would just add a new block from the admin panel and select RSS Newsfeed. It should then have a list of a few newsfeeds already or you can add a link to another. If I remember correctly, it even has a link to an RSS newssite so you can add newsfeeds to your list.

I haven't had a chance to check some other scripts, but I'm sure there are others out there that will do the same type of thing.

Did you ever find a solution?

Actually, I have an idea of what I want to do but I've been too busy to implement it. I've been looking at using Magpie RSS (http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/). Do you have any suggestions on something similar/better?

http://jade.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/feed/index.php?s=build Thanks! That looks like a neat tool. I tried it with a test site and I like how easy it is to create the feed. Very nice! :)

You are welcome. Be sure and click around the site as well. One of the tabs allows you to create your own css for the feed.
