My wife's friends came on vacation with a 50 pack spindle of various movies and shows he had recorded. I'm not sure if anyone has had this happen to them, but all of them were recorded differently, each needing various video and audio codecs in order to play.

I tried to figure out what the heck was wrong with a bunch of them (sometimes sound wouldn't play, other times there were video problems, etc.), and then got this freeware program that everyone should have:

AVIcodec (http://avicodec.duby.info/) <<< DOWNLOAD ME!

Gives multiple information on multiple movies, particularly the video & audio codecs, if they are supported by the system (usign VFW or Directshow), and where to download them if not installed.

Movie types recognized : AVI, ASF & WMV, Real (.rm, .rmvb), Ogg (.ogg, .ogm), Mpeg-(S)VCD-DVD (.mpg, .vob)

Basically, you run the program, open the video file in it, and it shows you at the bottom of the program everything you need to know, if what you have installed supports the file, and has a 'web' button to download whatever you need in case the file isn't supported.

You still have one of those hallucinogenic toads? I've been looking for one? Take paypal? lol

When I was into video editing I played around with that works pretty well. I'll have to show it to my dad.
