Hey guys..

I have a client who needs his site from old Cpanel host moved over to me.

The only method of doing this now is with a full backup '.tar.gz'.
Which once extracted to our server, leaves a mess of a file structure :(

folders like CP FP MM MMA etc etc
then the 'normal' cpanel stuff (like public_html etc etc) is in a folder called 'homedir'.

I have been a reseller for awhile and just gettin into my first dedicated. This is my first dealing w restoring from a backup..

I was told to just mv it to the /home directory (done that)
then untar it (did that)

This is the kinda file structure it had..

I was told I basically need to mv (move) all those flders to the correct folders. (i.e. /mysql/ to /var/lib/mysql/)
but the rest of them I have no clue!!!
I have searched and searched and can't find the info I need..

Please let there be a saviour here :D

Thanks for any help on this :D

Eric,

Have you asked your host if they will just restore the .tar.gz file for you? Most hosts with good support will do that for their customers in a blink.
All they have to do is drop it into the /home directory and click the "restore full cpbackup/cpmove file" in their root WHM and type in the username...afterwards changing ownership to your reseller account is cake.
Oh no! Not bobcares...I mean does he really? ;-)

We can do it for you just provde us with the tar file and your server access :)

do not untar it there :) if you are running cPanel box as well, and get root (you are saying you on your dedicated server, right?), just go to WHM, and use Transfer function. If you know your client's password in old box, you can use "Copy an account from another server with account password".

another way, if your client has transfered the full backup file to you, move it to /home, and use "Restore a Full Backup/cpmove file" in Restores section. That would help

I believe you are on a cpanel server.
If so, just move the full backup file(should be called username.tar.gz or cpmove-username.tar.gz) to /home and then run the following command(in shell as root):
/scripts/restorepkg username

This will create the account(if not created) and restore all the user files and folders to the correct locations. Simply untarring the backup file will not help.

Just Upload it in to the Root Folder of the Clients the Tar File and Go to Cpanel and Click on Files and Extract with the function in the manager.

I'll keep this open for others who may have the same problem... however... note that the original thread date was March 29, 2003. Someone pulled this one from the deep.
