...are you planning on doing advertisement banners?

I might as well leave WHT, I'm being bombarded with advertisement banners over there!

:baghead:

I'm not sure what is the correct answer to that question, if it would be a bad thing or a good thing, but eventually I'd like to have sponsored individual forums. Nothing too whack Jack you know.

I don't mind the banners. They are fun to click.

I don't mind banners as long as they aren't the only thing you see on the page. ;)

1 Banner is fine per page. WHT turned into like a friggin directory or something. I think you should do stickies atleast for a temporary solution.

Well, oddly enough, HHO's return was (at one time) going to be a directory, but I decided to ditch the chat idea and revive it as a forum instead. The directory will still happen but it is not the same as WHT's (I was like, "Ohhh great!" when Robert said something about a directory, but relived that it was a different kind of directory). Might not even be on this site, we'll see, but it will go up (someday).

Not that anyone asked my opinion but I'm going to ay something anyway, I don't think that there is something wrong with banners.. epsecially regular ones - actually it even makes it more interesting - does it really makes such a huge difference if you have some 468x60 on the top of the site when you're scrolling down? come on?

show some support... it's not like people are actually contributing money to support the hosting fees and the effort the mods put in the site.

Just my 2 cents..

ok I'll shut up now

For the most part, I think some people (especially at resolutions of 800x600), found the 1/2 page text banners (ones that WHT used to have and SP has) to be a bit... much. While I thought these were nice (gave advertisers an opportunity to give more information), it did take up the whole screen in some cases, forcing users to scroll a page down just to see the start of the site. We'll not be using those.

Ya it was the text ones that I and other people found extremly annoying. They took up a ton of the page. The banner ads on WHT are fine. What I'm talking about is the
Find a Host » Shared | Virtual Private Servers | Dedicated | Reseller
Webmaster Resources » Domain Registrars | SSL Certificates | Control Panels | Colocation | Bandwidth | Software | Other

I think that over commercialized it. It doesn't really cost RackShack that much to host it I'm sure, and they should and probably do want to get their money's worth, but somewhere a line has to be drawn.

I don't mind banner ads at all. It's pop-ups and pop-unders I really hate. :yuck:

Chicken

Yeah those suck to say the least, especially on sites which popup/under an ad per page, which is really annoying.

YEch... Popups drive both me and my computer insane :banghead:

I'm all for banners, just not the huge ones that take up half a page :yuck: What Chicken showed us here (http://www.hosthideout.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=659) is great.

That's all that will be (at most). I'm not a big fan of advertising all over the place. Buttons, banners, links, flashing doo-dads, etc. All too distracting.

Chicken,

I'd be interested to have our directory at BrowseHosts.com be in this forum with say a button "directory". Since it's a pay per click directory, you'd be getting a VERY nice share of the profits, and you don't have to worry about setting anything up - it would go right through XML feeds. You'd also get 10% of the lifetime deposits of hosts who sign up using your unique link we provide you. I think this would be a great way to cover the cost of your servers, yet not have banners all over the place. This would be providing a service for your members without you having to worry about anything. The bids at BrowseHosts go up every week. We get about 3-5 new hosts a week, and most like top bidding so the bids go up. We have a partnership like this with about 20 other large sites, so you can be sure it pays out and works nicely.

You can also add in like 1 listing through XML feed as if it were an ad banner all across the forums and reap the benefits.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

I sent this page to myself, as I'm currently mobile. I'll have a look later and get back to you.

sounds great.

What phone lets you surf these types of sites?

Chicken

Actually, it was via a laptop and I was just about to leave one place to another. I'm not sure you can get HHO on any phone, though I'd imagine it's possible.

O I C :). Well, awaiting your response eagerly.

Well I just tired this on mine (Samsung n400) and I received a memory overflow error. Perhaps HHO is still large for my cell phone.

Try going to http://hosthideout.com/archive/ - I'd be interested to know if that works.

Hmm should Viagara pop-ups be "pop-up and stay-up"?

Just curious.

It's working, I included a screen shot.

It's not really the best screen shot in the world (taken from my web camera) but hopefully you can make out the links and such

My Nokia 7650 handled HHO just fine and i went round the forums pretty good.
