The Roberts were close, but two a's, not two r's. As I might have mentioned before, the nickname Chicken is a life one, which I brought to the forums, not the other way around. This was mainly due to wearing a Halloween costume a few too many times in my younger years (see attached image). I'd see people again and they'd say, "Ohh yeah, I remember you... THE CHICKEN!" -which they never stopped calling me (probably easier than remember someone's name).

So the wife calls me Chicken, most of my friends call me Chicken, and at work, everyone is called by their last names (because that's what the kids say), so it is rare and almost odd to be called by my first name. So odd that I am actually surprised and caught off-guard when it happens, heh.

*looks around*

"Ohhhh, you mean me, ohhh hey, yeah hi... eh."

I didnt know the picture was moveable within your site!

Also, you have some broken links.

Can I have a job?

Stalker?

Btw, neither of your sites work? or is it my ISP?

Chicken

Hee hee... yeah it is moveable (part of a javascript phase I think we all go through), and many of the links don't work (I had them on my Earthlink account, and I can't recall how long ago I used Earthlink dialup, sheeesh). The last time I updated that site was ummmm... probably a few years ago. I suppose I should at least throw the files on a server so the links work, though I don't really plan on updating it really. I also have another site which I haven't updated too! Started posting all the pictures of the Nugget and some movies and then decided to look for a gallery script, but never installed it. Yet...

If your looking for a gallery script, the one I use on my site is fantastic

There is a link to it at the bottom.

Yeah, that's the one I was going to install. Just too lazy to install NetPBM and the script. NetPBM might even be included in the default cpanel install for all I know, I keep forgetting to check.

Both are down as I'm switching providers (getting of the RackShack network thank God, whole other story). The name servers have switched over but the domains haven't, kind of weird. Should be up in 24 hours or so.

How many other people also had their nickname before it was a computer alias? When I was 8 I used to play basketball with the neighborhood's group of kids and everyone had a nickname of somesort. There was Carty, Coggy, Charcoal, Mophead, and Rew :p: . One of the guys just started calling me that, and an occasional rewdog so it stuck. (Last 3 letters of my name Andrew )

(Off topic) How are those logitech speakers? I'm thinking about buying the set.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread

The Speakers, for $49.99 are great. Along with my SoundBlast 5.1 Live sound card, the walls actually DO Shake. Can't beat this.

Maybe in the future I'll add surround sound, but this an office, not a playground or home theatre.

Umm... sure "chicken" sounds cool. Long before i was frequenting the forums (mostly WHT) i was like half day on irc in all kinds of rooms with the nick "chickensoup" i dunno why i used ( not even a reason to tell) but it sure sounded cool.;) you made me think twice about my nick and go with "designerghost" instead because you had so many admirers (on WHT) and i feared making myself look a a***le...LOL, i 'm angry with ya mate you grabbed my part of soup too. :( :D ;)

For some reason, I never had a nickname that stuck -- I guess I am too much of an Allan. Well, I take that back, when I worked at GENie I had a nickname -- and it stuck, but I'll never tell that story.

Most people call me Rodert. See when I was little (about 3 or 4), I had this wooden thing that had my name cut out with a skill saw or something. For some reason I thought the B (in roBert) was a D. Now about everyone in my family calls me that. Kind of sad :'(

Robert
03-28-03, 05:04 PM
Well my real name is Roberto. Perro, I mean however, I lived in GA for some time (dad was in U.S. Army) and those Hicks (I love them!) couldn't Roberto.. They'd pronouce is RAWBERT-TOE. Roberto. AHH I hated that. So I call myself Robert and ever since than it's been Robert.

M friends call me Bobbie (in spanish.. say it BO BE). Not BOBIE. Hah. Also, at work 'm referred to as Little Rob.

Speaking about speakers, has anyone come across Altec Lansing's ATP3 (http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=ATP3&sID=2)? I have yet to decide whether to go for it or not. Your comments are most welcome. Thanks.

I hate to admit it, but my sister calls me "bubba". I cannot stand it!!! It is embarrassing. And some of her friends call me it now. RRR! :D

That's how it all started for me. I'm sorry... really sorry for you. If you ever go to prison, that nickname'll be soooooo cliché.

Debbie

I was always called "Headless" in Jr. High and High School so I used that often when I first started using nicks. Now I try for Debbie first to see if that's taken. It usually is, but worth a shot anyway.

Headless.

Ya really gotta wonder how a nick like that got started...

Maybe it was due to her always riding around on a horse with a pumpkin on her shoulders screaming:

"Ahhhhhhyahhhhhh-HAHAHA-HAHAHA-HAHAHA-yaaaaaahhhh-HAHAHAHA!"

OK... so that was just a guess. Lay the story on us!

My very soul has been moved by your eloquence.

Chicken, you're nothing if not articulate...

CompCity

My nickname was always my last name in high school and junior high. Partially do to the fact that I was a jock and the majority of my friends had troubles with words that had more then a single syllable. So "Hall" pretty much stuck with me. In fact, only my family actually calls me Justin... or Daddy, and on occasion, Justy (One of my Aunts and my Grandma always call me that)... guess that's better then people calling me CompCity :D.

ZummiBear
03-29-03, 10:20 PM
I got mine from the cartoon Gummi Bears.....started going into chatrooms when I was about 15...and that was the first thing I could think of.....and I changed it every so often...but always kept comin back to ZummiBear......and now at 23....its still here and friends call me Zum or Zum Zum =/ Family still calls me Tash...

lmao, nice custome.

Debbie

Headless was something a friend of mine started calling me and it just caught on somehow until eventually hardly anyone called me Debbie anymore. Most of the time everyone called me Headless, sometimes it got shortened to just 'Head' (fun).

I guess it had something to do with my last name - Headington - and that I was (and still am) a bit of a screwball.

No pumpkin head, but I did make a big paper mache Mickey Mouse head once that I wore while driving around town with friends. Just drove around town and waved at people. Does that count?

Robert
03-30-03, 06:55 AM
I must have a familiar face, because once in a while a total stranger will call me jack.. umm jackass I think that's it. That happens when I drive, maybe me and jack have the same car too?

Other times they keep asking me to go on vacation to hell, but i can't "go to hell" because that's in The Cayman Islands and I'm in the U.S.

I must have a familiar face..

Well, I started out a few years ago with a nickname of 'Stinger'. I tried registering domain names with it and signing up at various sites but it was always taken. I'd then try to shorten it with 'Stingr' but I couldn't stand it. A friend of mine helped come up with the name while playing an older version of Wing Commander on the PC. You could call yourself anything and somehow, that name came up.

Since I had trouble using it, I just went to a more easy to remember (and hopefully less used) name. Hence using my first and last name together. Somewhat boring and people now can track me down easier but it helps for what I need.

Robert

Blair? Nice name. Some people have really nice names.

Ie. Blair Industries, Blair Hosting, Blair Electronics, Blair's Computer Repair,

For me, it doesn't work... Rodriguez Industries? NAAH

Yeah, and then there are all the related people/things. i.e. Tony Blair, Linda Blair (from The Exercist), Blair the company (http://www.blair.com). Too bad I'm not related to any. I wonder if I could win a cybersquatting case against Blair the company. It is my name and I've had it for 28 years.
