Cisco buying Linksys??

Doesn't seem like much will change. They are still going to be selling the same products under the same name, just as a division of Cisco. I have a couple of linksys router/switches and they've always worked flawlessly. I'm not sure if this means they will be made better, but I got no complaints.

I like that Cisco is getting into the end user market more and more.

Right, but it seems like such a divergence from their traditional path -- they have always been so focused on the Enterprise that moving to consumer in such a big way seems risky.

That being said, I'm a big Cisco fan (Juniper who?), so I hope this means we get even better end user equipment :D.

When you say, "moving to consumer" I think they just bought it to tap the consumer market with the existing Linksys line, more than anything. With the buyout, they instantly have a low-end consumer market base, nothing to really "move to" per se.

true but they will have to convince the people that they will improve on the home/small business network devishion and bring the lynksys name to the for frount of home/small business networking.

a few of my friends dont even trust that brand as they have has massive problems in the past with them. with the buy out tho it miht convince them to try them out again in a while once they get some new specks going on.

I've always kind of hated Linksys don't know why. For home networks I've always been a big 3com fan. Cisco has a small part of the "End User" market right now as it is. They make dsl modems, dsl routers, small unmanaged switches, and such. If they shift some of their cisco engineers over to linksys that would be awesome.

I'm a big fan of linksys products for home networks, I hope this only makes their products better!
