Well I'm about ready to order and install a SSL cert. Just wondering what your guy's favorites were. I heard thawte was pretty good. But I'm looking to spend under $150.

The GeoTrust from Rackshack don't look to bad but I've had a sour experience with RS so I'm not sure.

I use the the RS Geotrust cert on one of my sites and I have not had any problems. If you don't want to buy directly from RS, you can buy from one of their many resellers :).

$29 bucks and your in. The Baltimore chain is better than the QuickSSL chain.
I used to own SSL4Less.com (sold it to GeoTrust) and I have never had anyone complain from certificates not being recognized.
One thing you need to ask yourself though. Are you concerned with encryption or encryption as well as verification of your business.
If verification is of interest to you then you will want to go with Thawte, GeoTrust TrueBusinessID, or VeriSign.

I think verification is only of interest to the consumer of your services, and that interest is (at most), marginal. I suppose it is something you could put on your site, (not that anyone would care).

Well who would you recommend comparing price and all. I want 128 bit encryption. Right now I'm running two sites, that are making decent money but I lose a ton of it to processing fees, so I'm going to echo-inc. Then do all the processing on my main site. So I'm leaning towards the Geotrust but thae one weberz provided doesn't look too bad.
We use RS - used to go through Geotrust themselves but at the price RS charges, you can't say no ;)

I recommend www.sslsource.com
We got ours via RackShack which is provided to them by GeoTrust and never had a single problem!
ssl.com sells comodo ssl just like sslsource ;)

Can the rackshack (geotrust) certs be used on non rackshack servers (wouldn't see why not just need to make sure)?

Just a little note..
You may already know this, but I sure as heck didn't. When you are purchasing a SSL Certificate, whatever URL you specify, that is the only certificate you can use. For example, when I first ordered it, I typed "verohost.com" and not "www.verohost.com". The result was that only https://verohost.com was sure while https://www.verohost.com wasn't. So I got a refund (what a mission) and got a new one that was with www.verohost.com! Ahhhhhh imma go lay down.

Yeah, that can be a bother. What we do is use http://secure.domain.com ... most people don't try accessing it with a www :)

Geez, I don't think I would have thought of that either. I had a cert. once, but wasn't the one who actually ordered it. Never ended up using it due to using 2checkout, but something to keep in mind. Danke.

You can also opt for a wildcard cert, which will work for any subdomain under a domain -- they are more expensive, but can be worth it.

There are several others as well (google: wildcard certificates). The truth is I have never had a need for one, and they are generally priced out of my reach...but it might be worth it to some here.

That is what is referred to as the common name in your certificate.
Theoretically www, mail, and say ftp would be on different servers. With virtual hosting being what it is today we usually don' think in those terms.
With that said www.mydomain.com would be a totally different server than say mydomain.com. That is why you would get an error when you accessed www.mydomain.com instead of mydomain.com if the cert was for mydomain.com.
LOL. I think I may have confused myself and everyone else with this but I thought I would give it a shot.

Actually... errrr... nope. I honestly don't think I would have thought about putting www.domain.com or domain.com at the time. As I said, i wasn't the one who ordered it, and can't recall if it was domain.com or www.domain.com now. Just get used to www.domain.com and domain.com esentially being the same thing and interchangeable.
I sure hope that Chicken is smoking a Cig and not something illegal. Huh? Do I need to call the Internet DEA?
