Right scenario... i've been asked by someone from the USA who i'ev known for a while now if they can do their "work experience placement" with me.

Im not sure what to say really. Since i turned off my centralised hosting business and worked mainly on investments and acquisitions as well as now developments i dont see a post for him however he is adament to make a "difference" somewhere.

I dont reallythink i needhim but he has some bright ideas and could possibly aid in the development of our newest business however im not sure that would be two weeks well spent for him.

Would you guys take on a work experience placement? Reasons...

Well,

Work placement would be more for their benefit then for yours.

If they are a good person, and you feel comfortable adding to their experience, then sure, take on the project.

Im sure this person will add value while they are there, and at the same time, they acquire knowledge and experience.

If you don’t have a specific task/role/project for this person to do, then I would not recommend pursuing this. I’ve had the opportunity to manage college interns over summer breaks and it’s a great experience for everyone if there is a well laid out plan and an end goal.

If it’s only 2 weeks, I would suggest coming up with a suitable short term project that he can dig into and handle on his own with minimal supervision. If you don’t have that and he comes for 2 weeks with hopes that he’ll make a difference, it will be a distraction to you and a disservice to him.

Unless all he really wants is to hang out in England. In that case, it’s a different decision as to whether you want to be a part of it.

Id help the person with the experience , it doesnt seem like it costs you anyhting but your time .

Im not fussed about my time or if im going to benefit or not just im wondering if HE would benefit from the experience. At the moment everything possible for him to do would be a bit boring as our company itself at the moment is just writing out 2 proposals for two new companies and sorting out a transfer of money to some new investments and acquisitions, and mainly researching which other internet properties to acquire. To be honest i have no problem taking him on just i dont want to give him a boring experience of which he could have otherwise well spent somewhere else. Understand where im coming from?

Work experience placement needs to be provided when it is mutually beneficial. Any placement requires certain resources (including supervision, computer, software etc.) and to be considered prior to placement. I feel that proper evaluation of resources and requirements need to be done just as in the case of employment.
