I hope people don't mind discussing these issues in the HH pub.. but as a fellow hosting animal, I feel the need to canvass opinion...

I have travelled the world extensively, to my great delight, over the years, and have formed an opinion about each culture that I have experienced...

Why do French hierarchy believe that on this occasion in history, they are better placed to positively affect world affairs than ever before..??

They have failed dismally at every juncture in the past, and instead of trying to encourage their people to contribute what they are skilled at, they have yet again decided to interfere in areas that they clearly have no track record or history of ever getting right..!

I have enjoyed French culture for 2 decades.. and I believe that the French have given the world the penultimate standard for style and entertainment .. but to expect them to contribute to world security is completely bizarre.. they are incapable.. as history shows..

This appears to me to be an egotistical play by a few men to gain another notch in the history books, for a country who cannot understand why they exist.. and they threaten our security by doing so..

I am a Brit who has lived in many places, and until this week I was eternally fond and respectful of the French.. but this nonsense has upset me.. how dare they presume to know what is best for us all.. they are grandstanding in the most conspicuous and dangerous manner.. and will doubtless go down in history as being losers in this arena for the umpteenth time..

This is NOT a racist thread.. but a simple comment that invites debate, WITHOUT angst or hatred.. but strong misgivings... I am prepared willingly to have my view turned 180 degrees.. so please if anyone responds at all, don't start a flaming war.. but explain, for example, why regimes that have just arrived at this level of power, eg Nth Korea and certain Middle Eastern countries.. should not be told that this stuff is old hat..

I have many critical views of the way the USA deals with certain issues, but I have many friends in the USA.. and they are just like me.. [mostly LOL] and I feel that the great divide that Europe is creating is selfish and off beam.. without even remembering how the USA saved our asses in WWII.. which they did.. and should be remembered well for..

In this hosting industry, the mixing of cultures is more prolific than any other I have ever seen in my life.. and in the majority I see a positive outcome of having Arab, European, American, Asian and all other cultures, work together and share information, and generally work together in relative, non racist, harmony.. I work with people from Sri Lanka, Jordan, South Africa, USA, Pakistan, India... blah blah blah.. and the majority have become friends, who all contribute to the total quality of life we share..

We [the web hosting community] are a small voice I know, but I would love to inspire my colleagues to set a standard where none of us have to bull**** about what we can and can't do.. and all accept that we all contribute significantly to the future of our planet.. instead of having 12 yo students roam the streets in war protests, which is so obviously contrived, let's work to deal with things the way we deal with the madness of daily life as a webhost..

Things are getting out of hand globally, and we will see horrible results if we don't wake up and make an effort.. so lets do what we can to diffuse war, and provide a fair share of the good life we have, to those who covet it .. there IS enough to go around..

I guess this thread will be deleted, but what the hell.. if anything can prove that a COMMUNITY of like thinking people CAN work together remotely, then ours has to be the one.. we can provide the innovation, and politics can easily become moderate..

You mean, have them start their own company :D?

Excellent post, and there is certainly no reason -- that I can fathom -- to delete it. It is still possible to have rational discussions about topics that intelligent people disagree upon. It may not be possible on all forums to do that, but I am confident that it is possible here.

I hate to say it, but I don't see the war stopped. But I know what you mean, and it is annoying to see 12 year old in the street protesting the war. I suppose it is better than complete apathy (which I may be guilty of sometimes).

As for the French...

Although certain French leaders seem to be enjoying a sense of control and leadership at the U.N., and the fact that France is the center in this dismal political disaster, honestly, I think it matters not. The U.S. will go to war without the approval of the U.N. if it wants to, and ultimately the U.N. doesn't seem to do all that much. The U.N. seems to be the ICANN of the domain world.

I heard somewhere that like 75% of the French populus is like communist or socialist? No wonder they are being they are about the whole Iraq ordeal.
