Actually University of Washington has introduced the PINE Email
I won't feel there is anything special about that than Microsoft outlook

I have been using pine for the past several years and like it a lot. I like it because 1) it's very virus-safe, 2) it's nongraphical UI and keystroke commands mean that it's much faster than web-based mail, 3) I can read my mail on it from a central server, not the computer I'm on at the moment or for the year or whatever, and 4) that mail is easily portable (for my needs, at least) to other servers with pine.
