Hello,
First of all, I don't know what I should get/stay with. I have a computer with the following specs:

Monitor: 19'' hppavilion mx75
Operating System: Windows Xp Home
Hard Drive: Maxtor 80gb 7200rpm
Graphics Card: nVidia TNT2 32mb
Cd Writer
DVD-ROM

This has been working great for the past two years. However, I am traveling a lot more and I think it's time for me to use a labtop. I want to sell this one because I simply can not keep two pcs (what a waste).

Should I bother getting a labtop? I like am traveling a lot more now. I do not leave my computer on 24/7. I like playing games such as Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat. I also like to use my computer for video/graphic editing.

What kind of labtop should I get? Remember I need something that will do almost everything. My budget is around $1500.

Your recommendations please!

$1,500... umm I'd say a really good one with allot of extra's. I got a great Gateway for $850 and it came with 40 gb and 2.2 gighertz... though it was on sale. I'd say if you shope right and look for deals... your be more then happy with a $1,500 dollar laptop...

Well the less the better. I would settle for a $1000 labtop :)

BestBuy recently had a Compaq with a 2.2 Celeron, 40GB HDD, 128/256MB of RAM (I can't remember which), DVD/CD-RW for $699 after MIRs. If you do video editing you can burn VCDs and SVCDs, but you may want to burn DVDs, in which case you'd have to shell out some more greenbacks.

RIGHT NOW, go to http://www.bargainshare.com. Click on Internet Deals forum. There is a deal detailing how to get a good Dell PC for $140 after rebates. It won't last very long. You can add other goodies (larger harddrive, dvd-r, etc.) later. Again, it won't last long, so go now.

I recommend you check out Toshiba's line of laptops. I recently purchased one and have been very happy with it.

If you're willing to pay a premium for quality and reliability get an IBM, there's really no contest when it comes to laptops. If your budget is too limited then just get whatever you can find a good deal on.

What makes you believe IBM has a superior laptop?

I've never owned an IBM, but I have gotten a Toshiba recently (a few months ago to replace my very old Toshiba), and replaced that with an HP (a couple of months ago). They make Compaqs which are very similar, just a few slight changes. I actually like the Toshiba better in many ways, but overall just the feel and keyboard and touch device.

I personally recommend anything by Gateway. I'm currently using a Gateway 400S Laptop and I've had no issues with it. They have excellent desktops as well, got one of those hooked up at the apartment, no issues with that either.

The first toshiba laptop i bought is in fact the last. Call it bad luck if you want but the hard drive ble wout in 2 days and i was told my warranty doesn't cover the hard disk...strange that that's the only component they dont warrant yet that's the only one that failed.

It cost me £850 and on the third day it was in the bid. Literally money going down the pan.

I was strongly considering the Gateway laptops. They are nice. Before getting this toshiba i didn't really even consider them until I looked at one.
