I am looking at picking up a couple of laptops at Dell for me and the wife, I am looking at the Inspiration 1100 thats a 2.0ghz celery with the 15" screen, 30GB, 128 (upgrade to 512 after) and CD-RW/DVD combo. Its going for $749 a peice.
I am just looking for some feedback on the laptops as I have a few Dell servers for hosting and also admin about 20 Dell servers at my jobs and they are rock solid so I am hoping to get the same thing out of the laptops.
I don't do gaming or anything so I don't use it for anything fancy just for sitting on the porch/couch checking tickets and for checking tickets on the road as my old system is a bit dated.

I purchased a dell Inspiration 5100 Very rock solid machine got all the option with win xp pro with works suite as well.
However I will note dell did not follow my instruction not to load any other software other than the os and the suit along the need files for hardware.
I have had this for a little over a month now very impressed if you spend a little extra you get a nice laptop.

I used a dated Dell Inspiron 4100, it's a P3 700 and it's fine for normal office based work and surfing.
So your celery should be more than okay. But personally, a laptop is an investment to me. I would try to get a P4-M at least then you can use the laptop for many more years down the road. :)

BestBuy has a Compaq 2.0ghz celery with the 15" screen, 40GB HDD, 256MB of RAM and CD-RW/DVD combo for $699 this week. Just FYI.
I setup several of those insiration (or whatever) for a client and her husband. They're nice... and you really can't notice that it's a celeron, they're pretty speedy. Not bad at all for the price. Just don't expect to get a thin lightweight computer, they're just a tad hefty. Still, as notebooks go they're very nice ;)

Okihost, not that it helps any now. But 2 weeks ago there was a way to get the same config on the Inspiron 1100 for $604 after rebate. It was a fluke. Let me see if I have any coupons that would lower it any for you...nah. Nothing good right now. I'll keep an eye out.

I have a 5150 and it's very nice. I think no matter what you buy from Dell you'll be satisfied, but I'm admittedly Dell-centric. :D
You can buy the 1100 through the Dell web site for $699, btw.

But not for the same specs, right?
