If you have not gotten this chain letter yet, I am sure you will soon:

Join the Resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer
Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some
intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last
April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because
they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to
buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them but it did eventually work.

Whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work but much faster. Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50
is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.89 for regular
unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have
conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.70,we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS do control the marketplace....not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is
if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY
gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one),
EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.

If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to
follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

[snip...explanation of how you can reach 300 million people in a few weeks]

Now, I don't claim to be an expert on world affairs, but it seems to me that it doesn't matter how much you pressure the gasoline companies, if OPEC does not lower the price of oil, then gas companies will have to raise prices.

Also, wouldn't this primarily hurt the people that run the Exxon and Mobile stations? Not the corporations, but the mom and pop gas station owners??

Oh boy another version chain letter on that :bs: The weird thing is that people will forward that rubbish on and still go and buy petrol so they have enough in their tank to drive up the road a few metres to get their Maccas or whatever. :fork:

You'd be suprised. I don't think exxon directly controls the price as I understand it. They sell itto the stations at a certain price then the stations raise/lower it. Just more spam, I think that one that goes arond hot mail "you need to forward this to 30 people to keep your hotmail account active".

It's more like coming from one of those mom and pop gas stations that have not joined the frachise chains of EXXON and MOBIL.

Last I knew, stations like Mobile are independantly owned and operated, as you said, by mom and pop gas station owners. Their supplier and brand is Mobile, but that's about where it ends.

This was (IMHO) one of the most blitheringly stupid chain letters I can recall. I remember that one last year, and I imagine that the oil companies weren't the only ones laughing. Sheer stupidity and even more idiotic was that people actually did forward it around to everyone in their address book!

I've gotten the one you posted above already, sent to me by the same people who forwarded me the one last year.

I've received that one and one similar to it. Everytime the gas prices start to rise they start to circulate again...

It's kind of funny that everyone blaims opec (not that I like them). Even though we get like 40% of our fuels from them. They are just power hungry arabs (not being racist). Course the thing in VZ isn't helping at all right now, along with the beginings of "going into war"

Doesn't that 40% really sway the price of gas though? I hear all the time that the price of a barrell of oil is rising, which of course raises the price of gas? Or am I wrong about this?

You're right, but still. I think 90% of their influence is just their mouths over loading their arses. Think about how many countries are in OPEC I can count atleast 10 off the top of my head, Iraq, Iran, Kuwiat, etc etc (don't quote me on those though). It would be nice if people actually took a look at russia, they have huge oil fields.

I read somewhere that the Russia will tap into the Alaskan pipeline by the year 2007 -- unfortunately, I cannot find the article.

Finally, someones seeing the potential there. I think Russia is probably one of the most mineral rich countries in the world, as far as oil, timber, and precious metals.
