Yes, however it is more of an automated script that is trying to gain access. It's a script that is running a dictionary attack most likely. What type of system are you running that sent you the email? Is it a Cpanel server? What type of firewall are you running?

If you are running a linux OS, I would change your SSH port to a non-default port. You will see a decrease in the attempts and also will get rid of unwanted traffic to your server(s)

Yes, someone was attempting to access an area they were not supposed to. As recommended by others, I would change your password if it is easy to break using a random combination of letters, numbers and special characters and make it a habit to change passwords on a frequent basis to ensure security of your systems.

That's exactly what I would suggest doing. Whenever you get an e-mail like that immediately change your password. I know some people might put a 1 or a 2 at the end of the password but you really need to change it completely.

cPanel servers usually block the ip after 5 attempts
