View Full Version : Reseller Support Idea

As I think support is one of the major expenses of startup host I was thinking of differnt ways to handle this. One idea was a generic support site operated by a few small reseller/host companies.

The site could have a support forum, documents, and a helpdesk. The forum could be monitored by the different host. So instead of one person, several people can answer questions.

The cost of support documents and tutorials could be split.

The help desk could be manned in shifts. If the host needed extra labor to fill helpdesk shifts the cost could also be split.

Any opinions on my idea?

Not a bad idea, but the hosting companies would really have to trust each other...

Yes trust is a concern as well as each host doing their share. I would like to hear more opinions if this is possible.

The forums could be split by user permission to group seperate host clients together. Other documents could be generic. The helpdesk might get trouble some.

Just starting to work the idea out.

At the very least, this could be done. To be honest, it pains me to see so many hosts, reinvent the wheel (so to speak) and create their own FAQs and support docs for the same cp systems. Reminds me of where I work, where every teacher has to basically turn in the same paperwork, yet we're all not bright enough to get together and accomplish the task togther. Aside from that, there's so much repition in teaching it is unbelievable. You'd think it was the 1960's (we're so uncomputerized and automated it isn't even funny).

At least get together with a few peope and share a few things.

Then you could create the help desk based on the server name, then everyone can log into this help desk and support tickets could come from support@serverx.com But again you have to trust 1 or 2 people to have access to your clients and you to theirs.

But if you can do that, then you are doing ok.

I think this is a great idea, but i doubt it would work in the real world, as has been said hosts would have to put alot of trust into each other.

I was contacted by a few users from this post and one on WHT. But as I thought might happen, I could not put together a group that would work in a real world application
