View Full Version : Am I missing something or can I go live?

I hope I post this in the right place. It sort of falls between the forums, so...

I have programmed and designed my hosting subdomain. I've made it from scratch all the way. I hope I haven't missed something important. I'm not really after any thoughts about the design itself. It follows the style of my other sites. But this is my first hosting business, so I don't know if all parts are there or if I'm missing something crucial. I'll do some more tweaking and next week I'l pay the setup fee for paysystems so I can get it to work as well.

Please feel free to test it, just don't pay for it ;)

I would agree on increasing the font size. Also try using a font that is cleaner and easier to read.

On your TOS you might want to take the main sections and put them as text links at the top with anchors to the specific sections.

The name kinda tossd me for a sec, wa thinking of seeing lizards. But thats just me.

I just want to say I LOVE the concept of the site's theme!

Hi Reptilian Feline,

The site is awesome!! I think putting the post here is appropriate. You did not ask for a website review. Actually, you said you weren't looking for that.

Looks awesome. Well done!!

Can't think of anything you missed.

When I click "Build a plan" I get:
"Parse error: parse error in /home/feline/public_html/hosting/build-a-plan.php on line 104"

How very O'Reilly of you ;).

Edit: Since this is self-promotional in nature, I am moving the thread to the design review forum. Note again that the original poster did not ask for a critique of the design, she wants to know if anything is missing

That was what I was thinking as well. Wonder if there are any plans for seashells. :D

Thanks for taking a look. I'm fixing the parse error. And fixing the spelling misstake.
I'll make text links in the TOS to make it easier to find the sections, I should have thought about that :)
When I grow, I'll most probably add some more plans, and then I'll go reptilian in the names.
I have some more tweaking to do... had some ideas during the weekend, so... I just hope Paysystems won't be hard to get approved. After that I'll start promoting it from my other sites, espessially my tutorials site.

Well... I've made some changes and fixed the parse errors so it should work now. I'm going to program the pricing on the Build-a-Plan differently now that I have it working. Add some calculating for the number of DB's and such, but still make it affordable.

Now...I'm just wondering... does anyone else have something similar to my Build-a-Plan?

yes, ISPrime has one. We were going to build one but found out that unless we bought servers and had them sitting here or had the parts to build one it wouldnt really work. Why? The cost of parts changes sometimes as many as 5 times per day depending on supply and demand. It would have been impossible for us to accurately keep pricing within our db so it would refelct correctly to the person using the form.

We have found that it is far easier to just talk to a client and get the config they are looking for and just call the server builder for prices right then. The whole process takes only about 5 minutes.

Good luck though...

I can understand the hassle of a form when you sell servers, but I'm only thinking of shared hosting, and I took the different options from WHM, and put together the form. The information I need to fill in is there directly, and they can't really ask for something I can't give them through WHM. I think this will help me make changes to my plans. I can see what people want most and adjust accordingly. I need something unique to draw clients, and I think that form is a pretty good idea for a new host like me.

Too many variables can make any idea fall flat on its face :) The build-a-plan makes it easier from a clients point of view, and when it's all stored in the db, the admin part is pretty simple as well. I don't think I would do it with more variables than it has now, that would be too much. If it doesn't work out, then I'll scrap it. The good part is that the price is taken to the orderform so I don't need to create special buttons for custom payments.

I thought your "build a plan" script was great!!! What a fine idea for a small reseller like me.

Would you like something like that for your own site? I built mine from scratch, so I can easily customize it as well.

In answer to your first question, yes, I'd go live with your site.

In re: "build a plan", I'd very much like to incorporate it in http://homeatlastfarms.net/products. Send PM and we'll discuss payment and stuff.

Also, just noticed a misspelling at the end of the first paragraph on build a plan page:
"costum plans eitherl"

Very interesting idea. Looks like you're ready to rock and roll.

A bit OT: Looked at your tutorial site. Very nice.

Thank you :) I write computer books, so a collection of tutorials is an easy thing to make.

I will probably start advertising soon. I'm sort of standing by the ocean, a little afraid to jump in.

I'm working on one of these build-a-plan setups myself. I'm currently working on tweaking a couple of payment modules for subscription payments and setting it up under oscommerce or a couple of other systems I'm considering.
