I'm moving on up, i think.

Ive been on a cable connection for awhile now, and recently a dsl hub was put in 1/2 mile away. Finally... I'm tired of paying for this cable connection and getting poor service, so I'm switching to dsl.

Anyone else have problems with not getting decent speeds on cable?

I was getting 2.5mbps down on cable but only 60kbps up.

Now I get 2mbps down on DSL and 300+ up. And I pay less..

I am getting 1.5mbps download today. Upload is at around 60kbps. I rarely get a faster download than 1.5mbps. Speeds seem to fluctuate around 1.5, and below.

dsl will be cheaper for me as well.

My DSL is suppose to be 1.5/256, but because of my area being newer I get 2mbps down and 300+

Give me stability over speed anytime.

I definitely agree, I am hoping to have a good experience with dsl.

I to just switched from cable to DSL, the reason primarily price, for what was becoming a degrading service. So far two months with the DSL, no problems. I am getting 1.5Mbps download and 256 Kbps up, and that is what it has been for me so far.

Those are the same basic reasons I switched. Price, and degrading service from cable. I've had dsl for about a week now, and am so far happy with it. The only thing I don't like is that the highest package available for my area is 1Mbps download, 128 upload - unless I have a business account.

There are many factors in choosing between cable or DSL. For me, in my area, cable is the way to go. DSL isn't that great here and it all depends on how close you are to the CO. I use cable currently and am very happy with the service and speed I receive.

In my area I have cable and get 3MBPS down and 1MBPS Upload.
Which average around 2.25 down and 700KB+ up.

DSL I had a 1.5mbps/128KB which averaged around 600kb/60kb
and was twice as expensive as Cable.

what's the cost of 3MBPS down and 1MBPS compared to the DSL ?

I had Adelphia Powerlink.. anyone else?

Now i'm on BellSouth FastAccess

Cable cost is normall $40 a month for 1.5/128Kb
while the cost for the 3/1 is $80 month.

The DSL was double normal cable at $95 month plus $200 DSL modem purchase (no they would not lease modems).

I pay only $40/month for 3mbps down and 512kbps up. That's the highest plan that my ISP has and it is fairly new.

Pricing depends on where you are located. DSL is $20 cheaper than cable here, but there is a 500k speed drop for download. Upload is the same for both, 128, but I get better speed through dsl. I don't mind the download speed drop as long as the service is solid, and it has been so far.

I don't imagine I would ever pay $200 for a modem.

Will, for me Road Runner (cable internet company) gave me a free cable modem for signing up, and the adverage speed if 3MB/s so I'm not complaing, I don't think dsl can even compare to that speed ;)

Nope, I've always loved my cable connection. I also have 5 computers in my house it feeds I.E too... does a great job :D

Speeds you are able to get depends on the area, and also the price varies. I talked to a friend yesterday who has a relative in Maryland with a 3M down and up dsl connection. What I wouldn't give to have those kind of choices, for cable or dsl, here where I live. :banghead:

I switched from DSL to cable not too long ago. They're both around the same speed, but my DSL would like timeout a lot. The customer support was pretty poor too. The cable is cheaper than the DSL.

I switched from cable to DSL about a year ago. I can't post my upload download speeds as I'm not sure what they are. However, I can tell you that the local cable company had put a cap on bandwidth speeds and usage. As I am an avid online gamer as well, I suddenly found my games becoming very laggy and my pings were a lot higher.

I switched to DSL and not a problem since. However, it does cost me a bit more. Worth every cent.

Here's the thing...

It all depends on your area. Do a little research and find out what is better for you. Cable is HIGHLY superior to DSL in my area, but 30 minutes down the road and the DSL there is HIGHLY better than the Cable there. It's all about your distance to the carrier and whether they oversubscribe their lines or not.

Yes... Olternit said it well.

DSL is a lot more distance sensitive than cable. I had a 1.5/128 DSL connection on one side of town and was able to max out the cap, but when I moved to the other side of town, I was only able to receive a fairly stable 768/128 because I was on the edge of the 3 mile range of DSL. Switching to cable, I'm now able to get 1.5/128 and more. I think it's actually capped a little higher like 1.8/256 so it all depends on your location which would be a better, faster connection.

I went with Cable Internet / Vonage VoIP phone service and said bub-bye to Ameritech.

Does Vonage also offer Cable Internet along with VoIP phone service? I'll have to check out their site again as maybe a switch (if they offer it) is necessary.

They only offer phone service. I'm using Comcast for cable. It's alright. I have nothing to complain about.
