Well, I'm looking for a good cheap server to host my e-business. I don't need anything really high-quality as it's just start-up, but I don't want something that can't accomadate alot of traffic.

I found this IBM Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz 1U eServer x335 Series on geeks.com for $300 and was wondering if it would do what I need (accomodate traffic, operate pretty quickly). I would be using WAMP as my server technologies. Also, the 332W power supply, is that a standard 120V outlet, our do I need to run some new wires?

# General Features:
1U Server
No Operating System
Two (2) Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz processors
2 GB RAM
80 GB hard drive
CD-ROM drive
1.44 MB floppy drive
Integrated video
Integrated Ethernet
332W Power Supply
LEDs to indicate system error

# I/O Ports:
Two (2) CT2 ports
Three (3) USB ports
One (1) 9-pin Serial port
Three (3) RJ-45 Ethernet ports

Usually those power supplies sdjust themselves depending on the voltage. So it doesnt really matter what kind of cable you are connecting on the server end, you just need to make sure depending on the voltage you are planning to. I am assuming a 120v. In that case any normal power cord would work.

If you are planning on getting a hosted server I wouldn't get too hung up on the specifications. I would focus on finding a provider that can give you a reliable network and a good support team. In our experience, machines generally run less than 10% utilization.

Its not only the hardware configuration, you need OS and more important is the basic management of both, power & network SLA.
Keep these points in consideration when shopping. Look for a reliable and reputed service provider.

And Yes, these can come within your budget.

What you need is to find a Good Hosting Provider if you want a reliable Server. Dont get started with hosting the server locally. As for that you need a good ISP to provide you uninterrupted service.

The server is pretty decent for $300 although I suggest investing a bit more for +2GB RAM shouldn't cost you more than $40 and perhaps get a nice fast 10K rpm SCSI HDD. And of course find a nice facility to home your server.

Are you a network admin? If no then I recommend you to go for a fully managed package when choosing one.
