View Full Version : Anyone use SpamCop?
Hello!
Ive been reporting mail to SpamCop for the longest time now, and Im wondering if anyone use uses it.
First, as a user do you report mail to SpamCop? Second, as an administrator do you use any of the lists SpamCop produces?
I only ask because I have this weird feeling what I am doing isn't actually going anywhere. Kind of like the scrap metal drives during WWII.
Just thought Id ask, you people know a lot more than I do. :)

We use them as part of a mix that makes up our spam score. I would not trust them on their own, but they are a good indicator that you are not alone in getting the spam.

As a user I do not personally utilize Spamcop. I generally just add the spammer to one or more of our internal blacklists.
As an admin we do utilize Spamcop as one of around 90 tests performed on all incoming mail. It is configured in a weighted configuration and a single failure based on the Spamcop blacklist will not cause mail to be bounced as they have a tendancy to add entire Class C blocks without verifying the reports. I find that it is very effective in a weighted configuration, however.
As an admin on the receiving end of spamcop reports, we do personally receive and act on Spamcop reports if I can verify that the reported e-mail is UCE. We have a very strict AUP regarding unsolicited e-mail so the samples included in the reports are usually very obvious regarding how unsolicited they are and if they are in compliance with our AUP.

Greetings:
We are a paid subscriber, and use it to report spammers as we have time.
Our hope is that it will cause them to go to RBL status and then be blocked through our use of RBL's.
Thank you.

What I used to do, was keep random emails that I had reported (those with a URL) and check the site in question at a later date. 95% of the time, the site was no longer available.
I guess I have been using spamcop for around three years now :)
