I've killed off @gmail.com or @hotmail.com registrations as the sheer number of daily abuse from accounts using these addresses is unbelievable. I know, some legit members have used these in the past, but if I showed you just one page of registered spammers, you'd kill those addresses off too.

Sorry... the block will probably be removed once we update a few things, but for now, use another address. During the entire existance of the forum, I think I've sent out two announcements, so your email address is relatively safe :D

What about yahoo?

Any new registrations using a @yahoo.com e-mail address will also be blocked. It seems spammers don't mind using that free e-mail service either.

@yahoo.co.uk added as that's the newest one with 20+ a day. Really I don't like killing these off, but until we do a hack or upgrade, it has to be that way.

Yesterday: 4 hour meeting, then stayed up until midnight preparing for...
Today: 1 hour meeting (somehow I got talked into running it).
Tomorrow: 8 hour meeting

All this would be great except, I have a teaching job and not only do I loathe all these meetings as the day crawls, I'm not in the classroom doing what I need to do. Plus any second of my free time (during the day at work) is spent, preparing for more $%%&#* meetings.

Being a webmaster for 5+ years, I believe your request for these emails. Other webmasters say the same thing about gmail and hotmail.

Dont forget to throw @mail.ru in there too!

Heh, the ones listed are the major ones that some legit users would get caught in. @mail.ru was probably the first ones blocked, though there are many, many more.

To be honest, I don't think that this is such a good choice to make. I mean, mostly everyone on the Internet uses Gmail and Hotmail, so basically you're losing out on tons of users.

Just my two cents.

I understand why he is wantring to restrict this......

So much spam now that its almost uncontrollable!! (The more address's that are blocked the less chance of spam)

hey i registered with an @live.co.uk address maybe you should ban these too as they are free but really there are so many free providers its hard to block them

']hey i registered with an @live.co.uk address maybe you should ban these too as they are free but really there are so many free providers its hard to block them We only block the ones that have hundreds of registered spammers showing up here all the time. We certainly won't block all free e-mail sites as that is not the reason for this. When you have 200+ banned spammers who used a yahoo.com account, then it makes sense to block that e-mail domain.

I see you're using an old Vbulletin version. Consider upgrading as 3.7.4 has many enhancements. If you want me to do it, I will do your forum nicely optimized, secured, enhanced for a fair fee. You can visit my site here for proof: Google "TalkJesus Forums"

Yep, an upgrade is planned and in the works. Just trying to get a few other things lined up first. Thanks for the offer, however, we are going to handle the upgrade internally. :)

I know what this is like, unfortunately i stopped linking to my forums on my site and only use them for work related stuff which is unfortunate, there was so much spam and even if i updated the security on it to moderate, add captcha, email verification as well as blocking emails which is not what i wanted. I wanted for users to have a good time but bots seemed to plague the forum, i just hope that doesn't happen here or on other big forums.
