have to plug webhostingstuff.com, its a listing of search engines that is a niche ppc marketing idea. Instead of tossing your money into googleads where theres less chance, why not go with a site that is geared just for hosting? my PPC didnt change but my ROI sure did.

price changes a lot.

uptime stats and "code of ethics" is free, to be listed in their "top hosts" they charge per click.... how much you bid per click depends on what position you're in.

It seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure I like the idea of having to outbid bohemoths like HostGator just to get my name up there... Are there other ways to get traffic other than being in that Top 10 List?

I looked into setting up an account with them in the past but was too skeptical to go through with it. But, now that I see some good reviews I may have to re-think the option.

I'll be honest, we used WHS in the past and didn't really see any results. Same thing with HostQuote and all the other services like that. AdWords has always worked much better for us. There's just too much competition in the Web hosting directories.

I'd have to agree with Dan here. Unless you're at the level of some of the bigger guys, it is quite hard to compete on the directory level.

Last night, I at last had the final bad experience with Ez-Web-Hosting. After being a customer for over 2 years I was so enraged by their latest stunts that I transferred my domain and went looking online for a place to comment on what they had done to me. I found WebHostingStuff as one of the top entries on Google to enter comments about web hosts. I found they had a single review, (and as I see now why) it was excellent.

I carefully entered my factual review, no name calling or anything, just a chronological list of the problems I had experienced, including having all our domain's email for 1 day destroyed, having our MX records re-directed two days in a row without consent from anyone on our staff, the typical repeating 1-4 evenings (post 6PM CST) per month without email access and their always saying "no trouble found".

About an hour after I had entered my comments, my negative review at WebHostingStuff was mysteriously removed. Take notice of this everyone! For all you quality host seekers out there, I would say buyer beware of using them as a guide; apparently they remove any negative comments regardning their advertisers!!!

You know I go to about 35 differnt webhosting sites that all have "top 10 hosts", some even claim top ten hosts worldwide. Strangely enough they all have different top 10 companies.

I wonder if $$$ from sponsering has anything to do with this...*ponders*

Strangely enough they all have different top 10 companies. You probably mean there's a different order, but you'll notice there are about 20-25 companies that usually get listed. The explanation is simple enough: they run high paying affiliate programs, most of them through cj.com.
