I recently discovered the Google Toolbar and the PageRank system. My site ranks 3/10 which isn't bad considering I haven't been optimizing for it. What's yours? Anyone got 10/10?

I dont worry about it.

I get most of my clients from people either talking to me or to other clients. Word of Mouth.

My website (sig) gets a 5/10 or 6/10 depending on the week. I have been lazy working on it recently. :(

Here is Google's Explanation on Page Rank:

PageRank Explained

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

It would appear that HostHideOut (along with many other sites) was added to the database shortly before google's crawler began to fail. For now the PR is 0/10 which generally means the site hasn’t fully been crawled yet. According to my logs google is starting to crawl some new sites again so hopefully the PR ranking for HHO and all of the other new pages out there will be updated soon.

My one site is only at 2/10 but I had another site which has lost momentum as high as 5/10, it's now down to 2/10.

Google Monitor is great as well. Nothing beats a free app. that does the searching for you -- and the counting! :)

Hi, I saw both of these pages but still do not see how to do a pagerank on my site. It is probably too obvious for me to see. Happens.

Please, where do I go to obtain this evaluation?

You need to install the google toolbar from http://toolbar.google.com/

Make sure the whole toolbar is visible in IE.

Then visit your site and look at the little white bar under "PageRank" on the bar.

The amount of green estimates your pagerank. The more green, the better.

Thanks for the accommodation.

I see there is even another thread about this. I must have sleep through the Google revolution.

Used to be 5/10, now 4/10. I haven't seen an update in a while. Google's bot needs to start getting on the ball.

I guess allan might be referring to http://www.hosthideout.com/index.php?s= which returns a 0/10!

By the way, nameslave.com (my site which is currently renovating) gets a 5/10. Not bad, I guess.

Check out froogle.com .... Google's own err 'Froogle' to search for shopping stuff. You'd think that Google would (as their main home page) give themselves a pagerank of 10/10 for all of their subsidiary sites, but oh no.. Froogle is only worth a 9/10 lol.

hostdime
08-20-03, 12:10 PM
At least they're honest...

Drew
08-20-03, 03:01 PM
Actually, HHO has PR5. At least the main page does.

However, I seem to be noticing a pattern with forums. They're giving the posts no PR on the toolbar, even though they still rank in the SERPS.

The toolbar's been a mess ever since they started the rolling update, so it's hard to tell what the real PR is.

Adam
08-23-03, 12:24 PM
I got a PR6 for HHO jsut this morning and now its 5 again. Weird. Anyhow yeah at least they're honest with their services like froogle and the directories etc.

Google is one of them companies you love for sticking with their roots and doing what most businesses forget to do while they're operating - have fun.

markblair
08-23-03, 05:11 PM
Another thing Google has continued to do which is obviously working is they kept the blank white home page with a search field and that's it (outside of a few buttons). Others like Yahoo through all this fluff on their site slowing it down.

Adam
08-24-03, 01:44 PM
It's no so much the speed which is good about the home page.

Its a site where you can get what you want or where you want to get at the easiest possible level.

They kept their roots and thats the most valuable business secret of theirs.

Your site gets...

2/10 for www.mpowerhost.com
0/10 for mpowerhost.com
