View Full Version : Argh google
Stupid google. My site was on the first page for "cpanel hosting" for the longest time, Now for some unexplainable reason, it's on page 5, links to the SSL url for my site, and doesn't show the description. Worlds best search technology my arse :[ :fork:
:uzi: Google
Sorry, just had to vent my frustration.

I hear ya. About 2-3 years ago, our site was actually on the first page when you type in "web hosting." Now it's on page 22.
Just be thankful your site is listed. :)

I just noticed that today, HHO is on the first page for both web hosting discussion and for web hosting forums. Last on the first page for both oddly, but hey I'm not complainin'. We're kinda on the first page for hosting discussion (actually findspforums is, heh), but on the second page (oddly the recipe script thread came up). Go figure.
For web hosting, I stopped looking on page 36 (it is probably on page 37, heh), but no HHO. Is there any easier way to tell which page it might be on that check one by one?

Just in case others also might find this useful, I use a program called Google Monitor. It's a free program that actually has a new owner now. I know they've enhanced it recently and the newest version is not free but I still found the old version on download.com. The link is below and again, this program is free:
http://download.com.com/3000-2181-10154562.html
It helps you search Google based on keywords and sites you enter. The site in my signature started out in 28th place on Google when searching for the term Chrysler Financial. Now, it's in 11th place and only on the second page by one link. :D

My fault, the program is still free at the new site as well. I just found the link and it can be downloaded via CleverStat at http://www.cleverstat.com/google-monitor.htm.

I cant seem to get the download to complete. I tried 3 times, is it just me?
Oh, and above link doesn't work because of the "." at the end.

I edited the link above -- I hate when that happens. As for the download, the first time from download.com it didn't go through. I canceled and tried a second time and it did work. I haven't tried directly from their site but maybe that is a better option.

Yeah, just start the download and if it stops, just click it again. It was slow, then stopped, I clicked it again, really fast, then stopped, then clicked again and got it. Haven't used it yet though.

I missed this somehow. How do you mean they use your money? I've read a little about that program and they rejected me using their ads on my one site  but I'm not sure how they use your money? Thanks...

Thanks... I believe what he meant was that if you put in 100 dollars it will be used up quickly. Meaning, your campaign won't last long, because all of your adsense links get clicked so quickly. That's why I pointed out that Google is now receiving 150 million queries per day.

Ahh', I get it now. That makes sense. I was thinking along the lines of the person having the ads on their site rather than the person placing the ads with Google to be on other sites. Thanks for the explanation! :)

You mean Adwords. Adsense is their new ad syndication program - that pays you money fast.
When checking your results on Google - check across all 10 datacenters - there is often a big difference datacenter to datacenter.
www.googledance.com lets you do that - but it got bought and filled with ads so much to make it hard & annoying to use. I made a small interface for myself to do the same thing after googledance turned to crap. www.googlecheck.com (Chicken - delete that URL if posting it is not allowed)
For checking Google ranks, I found a nifty (and free) tool here:

Interesting URL:
download.com.com

Yep, that's because com.com is owned by the same people that own download.com:
