View Full Version : I may be being stupid here but how can I "log out" of the forum?..

Matt used my PC the other day so I am logged in as UH-Matt. I want to register myself but everytime I try to register it just tells me I am already logged in as UH-Matt and I can't see anywhere to log out. I don't particularly want to go and delete ALL my cookies to resolve this.

Any ideas?

What if you try this;

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." (from Eagle's Hotel California) LOL! :D

Okay ... seriously, near the bottom right corner of the home page (just beneath the "Currently Active Users" count), there are 3 links in a row:

Log Out (http://www.hosthideout.com/member.php?s=&action=logout) | Mark All Forums Read | Forum Leaders

Or you may of course try that link above. ;)

That scared me for a bit as I saw a new post by me... and it wasnt me!

Turns out the above was posted by UH-Simon who cant signup because I left a cookie on his workstation :)

The logout doesnt seem to work for him.

I've experienced the logout problem on oher forums. It has worked here for me fine though. After you logout, try closing the browser -or if that doesn't work, don't close the browser.

Same for me. I have difficulty logging out of another forum that I help moderating using Netscape* (no problem with IE though), but HHO has been fine for both browsers.

* Yes, I'm one of those rare species who still LIKE Netscape.

Whoops, yes... I forgot to mention that I am convinced that the logot problems are browser based, not forum based (or maybe a combination).

I'll get him to try a different browser, thanks.

Wohoo, I finally got registered. I am at the office PC now so I will try the logout suggestions on my home PC later.

Welcome, and I'm sure you'll find it worth the trouble it took to sign up.

You can always clear your cookies to logout also, if the other methods don't work.

This is true though that would kill UH-Matt's new posts indicators, last visit info, etc. Nothing thrilling, but it's also a slight pain in the donkey to kill off one cookie. I suppose a search brings the exact one up quickly, but I should hope that there'd be another way!

I haven't used IE for a while, but where are cookies stroed anyway? Doesn't it have some kind of cookie manager?

This is one of the reasons I like Firebird. It makes deleting cookies easy:

IE 6 doesn't really have a cookie manager, but it does include an additional button in Internet Tools that deletes all cookies. Previous versions don't have this.
