So what are the rules about offering an unmetered transfer account?

I offered one to a user that provides free software based on the mozilla suite.
The ideals of open source and free software are things I support and I understand that the makers of such software don't get money for doing so so I made him a special offer that would allow him not to get charged for addiitional transfer.

The problem is that we do not permit offers of unlimted or unmetered hosting anywhere on the forum. The offer below has been removed, and any other similar offers will be removed as well.

I have not seen rules about this in the guidelines hence I'm asking here what the rules are exactly.

Feedback on this is appreciated :)

The rules are... we do not permit offers of unlimited or unmetered hosting anywhere on the forum.

It happens so infrequently that we just notify people if we need to, though it will be worked into a revamped version of the guidelines and/or advertising forum guidelines.

So what happens if a server is on a 10mbit or 100mbit unmetered line :csmoking:

Let me clarify...

We do permit offers for servers on 10mbit or 100mbit unmetered lines.
We do not permit offers for shared, reseller, or VPS unmetered plans.

A server on a 10mbit or 100mbit unmetered line does not mean a provider is going to offer the entire line/capacity for $10/mo. What we want to avoid is the dishonest practice of companies advertising $10/mo. packages under the notion that a user can use as much as they want, because quite simply, it's not true. They will be able to use as much as they want, until they are cut off. It's bad enough that users don't understand that they could be cut off if they use 2GB if they surpass the allowed server resources (CPU). There's no need to add to the confusion even more by offering unlimited/unmetered space or bandwidth/transfer.

This is why we do not permit these types of offers. Feel free to post what you will offer a user. The policy isn't debatable (sorry). I've had people email in about how I don't know anything and they've been hosting for 10 years yadda yadda and while all that is great, bottom line is that these types of offers will not be permitted here. Another web hosting forum may permit these types of offers.
