I'm looking for a solid software solution to limit access to a computer's more sensitive functions. I know schools and public computers sometimes have software to limit access to Control Panel, network config, and wont allow people to add/remove/install/uninstall programs.

Does anyone have any names I can google?

Thanks :)

Yet another thing I need as well. I don't think we got too far with that gradebook thread (at least not here). I haven't looked into how limiting you can make users (windows does have that), but I'd guess that it's the first place I'd look.

After downloading, installing, and testing 15+ gradebook programs / scripts, and after a close call between two, I picked a winner. Two were professional programs, the rest turned out to be a bit better than junk. I'll update the thread when I have the time to do short review each.

That would be great. I thought of trying to do a teacher type web site, however that desire usually passes quickly. Plus I'm not teaching now (but that's a whole 'nuther long story).

Oh come on now. If ever there was a time to go off-topic, this is that time!

Is this a career change or a temporary move? I sure hope web hosting didn't suck you in :)

Thanks :) Have you looked into Group Policy Editor (http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/winxpgpe.html)? In previous versions of Windows it used to just be called Policy Editor. It basically gives you a GUI interface which edits the registry to make the changes. I'm not sure how solid it is but I'm sure if someone has some good enough knowledge, they might be able to get past this. Select from the Start-menu "Run" and enter : GPEDIT.MSC

No, heh and it's a long (really, really) long story, one that doesn't have an ending just yet. I have a two page thread that discusses it, but I'm not sure you want to read through it all.

Makes me want to work at McDonalds.
