View Full Version : Which control panel to use?

I'm starting from scratch with a new server and have several choices on a control panel. I haven't designed the site, or even set up a payment processor for this yet, so I can choose virtually anything I want.

So, my question is - Which control panel is the best? Opinions welcome! :)

Cpanel is feature packed, easy, but has bugs and security flaws

Ensim is ok, not as many features as cpanel, but has good security and you can set up a VPS

Plesk is sloooow, ugly, featureless, and complicated.

If you have the money, get 2 servers, one ensim, one cpanel and offer your customers a choice.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have enough money, but can't justify getting two servers when neither will be filled for some time. I'd rather pick one platform and stick with it. Thanks :D

Mark I would disagree with your thoughts on plesk.

Out of all of them Plesk is by far the most stable out of the three.

Here is my thoughts

Well the big question .

My thoughts and actually i think cpanel should be braught into this one as well.

Plesk -pros-, stability, security, ability to manipulate 50 servers without heave expenses
cons - boring, less features, bad custimization, must wait on support

Ensim - pros- more features, more custimzable, somewhat secure and stable
cons- support take long, very depented on php , has had past security and stability issues

Cpanel - pros, great custimation, rather stable and secure, updates daily, great for sales
cons - price, past security issues, stability

After doing consulting for plesk and using ensim since about day one, i put cpanel at the top. Overall it is much better for the customer, and security is getting better and better. Between ensim and plesk, Plesk is better for stability and ensim has more features. At the end of the day I judge the better control panel by which gives me more time to sleep, plesk wins that.

Greetings:

H-Sphere at http://www.psoft.net/ if you want total automation.

Otherwise, Ensim or Plesk.

Thank you.

I am with dynamicnet on this one. We are currently moving all of our clients over and based on our experience so far I think that this is the best business decision that we've made.

Why does everyone forget about H-Sphere?

I have never used Ensim but have used Plesk and cPanel. I would have to say that cPanel blows Plesk out of the water. Great features, easy to use, and very reliable.

just my 2 cents!

Althought Cpanel looks the best and has tons of features it is for sure the WORST control panel I have ever used. Has too many security flaws, and tons of bugs. Updates are ridicilous. Literally almost every day they come out with a new bug.

As for the others I have not tried Plesk so I cant comment on it, but Ensim is great. Not as many features as Cpanel, not as pretty as Cpanel. But if you want to sleep at night and not worry about your server go with Ensim.

Out of 6 servers that I have owned in the beginning had all of them under CPANEL. And 4 out of 6 servers either got hacked or trashed to crap from the cpanel updates.

Now I run all of my servers (4 of them) under Ensim, and there has been no problems at all for the whole year.

P.S. EDIT: Hackers love to play with Cpanel. Its by far their favourite.

If you want your clients to flow in the river of quality features then only one CP can serve this cPanel/WHM.

Hackers love to play with our mistakes not cPanel

Being not technically sound every Newbie Hosting Company Owner claims that cPanel is buggy. Actually cPanel is not buggy their Automation Upgrade system is superb. But you must be little bit technically sound of LINUX and some other technical hosting issues.

Im sorry i beg to differ. Cpanel does not have the most security flaws. Dont know how you thought that one up.

If you really think it has then justify your answer. Dont jsut say it vaguely as a remark. Elaborate on your comments.

I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up (since it wasnt an option in the poll)

HSphere has been awesome - fully automated, secure, scalable, easy to backup/recover and psoft support has been outstanding.

Personally, I wouldnt consider anything else.

my 2 cents

I second that. Since we switched over we haven't had one single incident.

Greetings:

Sometimes I wish I had stock in Postive Software because H-Sphere is so awesome.

Where else can you get complete shared hosting automation from account sign up, fraud control, automated provisioning, support ticket, automated billing, direct client management, reseller management, etc.

Thank you.

We have used Cpanel. Plesk, and Ensim...but came back to Cpanel. If you know what your doing...security with Cpanel will NOT be an issue. None of the others can compare to the features of Cpanel. The only one that even comes close is H-Sphere.

Where else can you get complete shared hosting automation from account sign up, fraud control, automated provisioning, support ticket, automated billing, direct client management, reseller management, etc.

Where else? Here: Cpanel can be easily, and painlessly, integrated with WHM AutoPilot. Visit http://www.whmautopilot.com for more info.

Brandee and crew have an incredible software package that you will love. Download their demo and see for yourself. Many of us on Cpanel use it and swear by it. It also allows for multiple server integration through the same administrative module, variable shared hosting packages, invoices, fully automated account creation, provisioning, support ticket system, billing, direct client management, reseller management, affiliate system, and more. Fraud control is scheduled for the next big release.

By far, the numbers don't lie: Cpanel is the most popular, and very inexpensive. Get it! End of story!

I've used Ensim Pro for a while and am pretty comfortable with it so my vote goes there.

I will say that the redirect to anything with 'admin' in the root folder can be annoying at times though.
