Ok.

I have a FreeBSD 5.0 machine here at home. I would like to install Samba so I can connect to it using my XP system. It's at point where when I double click to open it, it asks for password for Myserver\Guest. I tried every passord in the server and nothing.

Does anyone know how to successfully setup samba? I'll pay!

Had the same problem with it on Redhat, course its been ages. I think there was a thread here about it. Have you set up the web based management thing?

I installed Webmin to admin it plus that SWAT thing (which I have no idea what it is).

I also mounteded the folder I want to share and now it just asks for password for Myserver\Guest (The username field is disbaled).

I want to set it up so I can transfer some data to my server for my new computer that is arriving. I guess i'll have to FTP it grr.

I think you have to set up the shares and then add a guest user. To access the SWAT I think it's something like port 901 (http).

In order for samba to be able to recognize the logins you have to tell samba to use encrypted passwords.

If you have a dedicated server for it, I really recommend ClarkConnect (clarkconnect.org).

They provide you with an ISO that you can load onto the server (it will replace everything that you have on the server) and it turns it into a complete gateway that can act as a proxy, file server, internal NAT and much more.

I recommend it to all of our clients that we do networking for (my other business, not xerocity.com).
