View Full Version : A Question?
Well I had a job working for someone and running there hosting business with this other kid the same age as me, and last night me and the kid got in a bit of a fight in front of our boss and I told him I couldn't work with the kid.
So today I just noticed he is on and I IM him saying I wonder what will happen to the hosting biz now that we got in the big fight. Then he says he is going to get to run it himself, and for proof he shows me cPanel, because I can't login the password was changed. Only thing is that the guy we were working for seemed pretty smart and he also seemed very nice, and I don't think that he would be so mean as to just tell him privately and not tell me he was picking the other kid to do it, even after I said to him I don't care if I am not picked for this job after the fight, I would though like to know if the kid gets picked or were both gone.
My Question for the Above Paragraph is that You think that the boss would really not email me and just tell him a new password to the cPanel?
Also this kid is very immature and don't know much about hosting honestly, he is a very immature kid for 14, and he don't seem to care about anybody but himself. Honestly I don't understand why the boss would want someone so immature and to add onto it he don't know anything about hosting, I asked what he knew the day I met him and he said .. " Well I know what space and bandwidth is not much else". So right there shows he really doesn't know much. Then on top of that he has to go about making fun of me in the IM I just sent him a bit ago.
Plus the only thing this kids good at is web design.
My Question for that paragraph is that You think that The Boss really choose him to do this project, when all he could talk about is success on the project?
and the other question to that is Do you really think they would keep the immature kid who don't know anything about hosting and drop the kid that is pretty mature and knows about hosting for, some kid to make a custom design for the site?
Thank You,
Stephen
Remember, employees always see themselves in a different light than the boss. You may think of yourself as mature, but your boss might not.
Your best bet is to talk to your boss and ask him what his decision was and why. Be respectful, and accept whatever he tells you, even if you think he is wrong.
I know that, I am not going to flip on him if he picks the other kid. Although I will be a bit upset. I will get on the other hand quite mad if he picks him because of him being good at designing websites, considering its a web hosting business.

Yes, but even if he picks him over you for all the wrong reasons, it will show. Something will happen where his web hosting abilities will be needed and when the boss sees they aren't there, then he'll be dealt with accordingly. If you are out altogether, I wouldn't worry too much with who he picks. Just sit back and watch as things don't go as planned. :)

Why? It is his company, shouldn't he be allowed to choose the employees he wants?
Yes allan, I am just saying that if he picks someone that dont know nothing about hosting what Mark said is going to happen, the whole company is gonna fall.

It happens ALL the time, Steve. Start your own company one day, and you can then make that very same mistake yourself. ;)
lol, well I tried starting it myself, but I only had a free reseller and this was few months back, honestly I would like it if ( also if the boss didn't fire me and he actually didn't pick and this kid just changed the password to get me upset ) someone wanted someone to run the site for them as thats what I was going(are) doing here.

Such is life Steve. I've gotten fired because a boss's daughter didn't like me. Move on get another job, its not worth stressing yourself over.
Yeah, but see this i kind of what I wanted to do, but also like I have said.. I haven't talked with the boss yet and won't be able to until 9 tonight when he gets on, and I am hoping that this other kid did just changed the password, because I really like the boss and the kid is honestly a little [Mod Note: Language].

Well just don't make any derogatory comments about the other kid, even if you did lose your job or whatever.
I didn't want to but now that I think about it I shouldn't have said that..

If you haven't spoken to your manager, that should be the first thing you do beyond anything else. If he or she says they picked someone else, no real sense in getting upset or excessively angry since there's not a lot you can do about that. Just approach him/her not 'concluding' or assuming anything. Just ask why you don't have the password and see what he says. If he sees you get all confrontational at the start and if I was him, you would lose out regardless -- just for the attitude. If he sees the other guy changed the password (which is petty), then you are the better for it - and the other guy will just continue acting juvenile and lose out on a good lesson in life.
But no matter what happens, use your job to learn as much as you can about the business since this job is just a stepping stone for you and not the end of your career. As for the other kid, he's certainly acting his age. Just ignore him and keep doing YOUR job as well as you know how.
You may not get a pat on the back or a compliment - your manager may not even say a word or act like he notices what's going on. But how you work is up to YOU and the habits you establish now will stick with you down the road. If you're a good worker despite your working conditions, that really says something about your character and when you get right to it, that's what ultimately matters anyway.
I mean, a job comes and goes; but how you conduct yourself in a pinch - that defines who you are and when push comes to shove, what this other kid says in an IM will prove utterly and completely meaningless.
You are very young... some things can only be learned from experience. This is one of them.
When you have a problem with someone, especially your boss or employer, you should talk to them about it. You should do it calmly and in a very professional manner.
Try not to jump to conclusions, ever. I know it's hard sometimes, but you know what happens when you a$$ume something? It makes an a$$ out of you and me :D On a more serious note, you'll never know what the intentions are by just guessing. The best way to find out is to simply ask.
Best of luck, regardless of the outcome you'll bounce back. It's just a part of life :)

Actually the other kid is only 14 to he's like 4 days older than me. But I did get an email from him and he said that it seems that I don't want to work with someone as a team to run this site, which is kind of crazy considering that I said I would like to work as a team when we first talked.

I am sorry to say I don't understand why your saying I have an attitude? I didn't think I had any attitude here or with him for that matter. Actually I acted quite calm in this case, and I acted really mature with him. I am upset that he didn't pick me, I did email him back a big email explaining that I want to work with someone and not alone, just not the kid he had picked, I stated various reasons why which I will not mention here as I don't think you guys really need to know all of the reason, as you already know the main two.
I thought me and this boss had a good friendship, and if after not picking me and still staying with the other kid after my email so be it, but if in a few weeks he comes back saying I was right, I honestly don't think I would say yes, considering he was rude to me in the email he sent anyway and think he handled himself a bit out of line, and sort of made it sound like I told this kid off or something when the kid was telling me off right in front of him. Well I am hoping to get a email from him tonight before I go to sleep or hope he is on aim, cause I really like him and really like the project he is doing, not to mention the whole idea for it, the domain and this really good idea I had thought up for my future hosting site, will be being used on his project, and honestly I think I deserve to work on this project.. considering he would have never had this very unique idea if not for me.

Look, I don't mean this in a derrogatory manner, but you and he are both VERY young.
I'm young an inexperienced and am 22 years old, and have been running a company for almost 4 years. I've graduated high school and am working on a college degree... I have several technical industry certifications, and yet I realize that I am still very inexperienced.
There really isn't any substitute for good experience... and it takes time to get. I don't want you to get the wrong idea. I think working at 14 is excellent, I got my first job and have been working at least full-time since my 15th birthday, and worked for a family business before that. A good work ethic will help you be very successful, but it's no substitute for experience.

well put brandon :) the best advice in any situation, and definitely applicable in yours, is to just learn from it. it's an extra notch in your belt in learning to deal with others, and that's something that everyone can benefit from :)

I will 110% admit that I not only have a lot to learn but I have tons to learn about the business industry, good business ethics and not to mention still have much to learn about webhosting, but I try and I think that's all that counts, and I know that I need more experience and will admit that being around hosting for a year don't do much but I am a fast learner and am hoping to get a decent job over the summer somewere for some decent hosting business, right now I would even take a know pay job I just need to be more involved than hanging out at hosting forums like here and WHT. I think that if I work for a few hosting companys in the next year or so, or if I stay with one and make a good company with them, that I will gain a lot of experience and good ethics, and more knowledge of stuff that's well needed as in Sys Admin and stuff of that sort.
Regards,
Stephen
I admire your zeal. You might want to get a pocket grammar reference and a dictionary. In written business communications, having many mispelled words and bad grammar can easily make you look... less intelligent than you might be. Best of luck!
