Hi All,
I'm just venting so please read and relpy if you wish.
Please explain what most host want in a billing package? This has been a wide open topic for a long time and every host seems to have a different opinion of what is needed.
I'm making a comment to open the eyes of a few that don't understand the need for highend solutions to help manage their hosting. Most host seem to place a low dollar value on the most important peice of software they need.
Many of the feature are there to make it easier on the host to perform certain tasks. An example would be Control Panel Integration, or having a integrated gateway. These tools are added to make life easier for automation.
Control Panels are the same way. If you didn't have control panels over half of you wouldn't be in the hosting business. They made life easy for the hosting providers (thats why your in it now). I remember when we set up domains by hand, and had the customer sent request in to add e-mail accounts to their domain.
Having billing and control panels integrated allowed for a fully automated account creation. This has changed the hosting providers way of managing their customers.
Lets take a look at dedicated servers and bandwidth, these items have come down. The one thing that hasn't come down is LABOR.
Do you think software development is CHEAP it's ALL LABOR.
I read a post on another forum that talked about cheap I mean cheap and it put it into perspective. The customer wants everything for free or near free, the host about gives it away to make the deal, the designer is working for nothing just to stay out there in hopes of the next job.
And we wonder why we are this way "CHEAP" we drive ourselves to it in our every day lives. I went to our attorneys office and was hit for $250.00 and I only saw this person for an hour. Thats not cheap, so why do we think we aren't as professional as they are and deserve the same respect.
Another example is wireless they aren't giving the farm away nor is celular phones they made the packages sweat but you sign your life away for it.
If there is something that makes one software better then the other it's in the design of the features and how flexible the solution is. The higher the flexibility the more complex it becomes.
Just remember this in the hosting industry FLEXIBILITY is the KEY. It's the ability to adjust on the fly, add, modify, expand, and so on. With some software you don't get that, your stuck with it what you have.
Well back to my question, Please explain what most host want in a billing solution?
