View Full Version : GoDaddy messing up accounts BIG TIME!

GoDaddy is messing up their databases as well as MANY clients' accounts (including some of mine). There have been different login types at GoDaddy over the years and they decide to merge them all into one system. Could have been a good thing except that they are setting some of the parameters wrongly and consequently throwing a large number of domain names into wrong user accounts, especially with those registrants with more than one credit cards on file.
Instead of fixing their parameter problem, GoDaddy is asking people to fax in copies of driver's licenses and signed requests in order to return those domains to them; and I was told that they were at least 4 days behind (processing requests from Tuesday as of Saturday).
I am honored  to be included in this mess since I have quite a number of accounts for both myself and clients and with more than a couple of credit cards on file. Am I mad? Yes, of course. I was once a loyal customer of theirs, so loyal that they actually enlisted me to be interviewed by a local Arizona newspaper (where their head office resides) for a featured article there. Now they are treating me like this ... [/Sigh!]

 that doesn't sound good. What a mess! :yuck: So what does it look like? For those who have had domains moved to their accounts, do they have extra domains in their account that they've never seen before? And the contact info has been changed to their name? And others' domains are just *gone* :splat: *poof* ???
I'd be :banghead: :soapbox:

Looks like they are merging client numbers. I see domains for my accounts sort of merged in. it looks like they used and older database too. I had changed my passwords last week with no problems. I could not get into an account today so I used an old password and got in.
Can anybody suggest a GoDaddy replacement??

Whois info remains the same (at least for now), but some domains are just missing from your portfolio (and end up in someone else's). In other words, you cannot modify anything or transfer ownership/registrar.
The thing I don't like most is that even though it's CLEARLY THEIR fault, GoDaddy is less than clever to ask their paid customers to shoulder the blame.
nameslave: It's not my fault. Why do I have to do anything extra (like faxing in a copy of my driver's licence and a signed request) to fix YOUR problem and get MY domains back.
A certain GoDaddy supervisor (speaking in a courteously blunt manner): That's the only way to return those names to your account, or they will remain in the other account.

Sounds like this may be the end of them, or atleast hurt them a ton. I'm sure someone lost a job.

I'm not sure how this jumps to '...the end of them' -but surely is a major goof. Enom has been great for me.

Well I was sorta talking about their reputation. Wasn't trying to jump to conclusions.

I think people will be mad at them this week.
Those poor resellers thru Wild West Domains will be extra mad.

Thing is, how can you prove which names are yours, which are missing, know where they are, etc. ??? I probably wouldn't notice if 1/2 the domains I have were missing, and seems like it would be a big mess if they were just moved into someone else's account, or if *that* person sold them. Could they do that? Or could they transfer your domain to another registrar?

I keep all invoices, contact info screens, and email confirms. Also I print and keep a whois from the GoDaddy site and NSI Registry after every change hit.

Good idea. I don't have any domains with GoDaddy but I did create a quick Excel document which lists the names, registration date, expiration date and registrar the domain is with. Of course this won't mean squat if I have to fight something legally but it helps me. I'll be printing the information from each registrar directly after hearing this story. I do have the invoices as well that have been sent via e-mail...

Luckily, a couple of months ago, bok (who posted at WHT) helped me consolidate all of my domains in one account at Godaddy. Since then, as they've come up for renewal, I've been transferring them to my enom reseller account. I checked late yesterday and it looked like all of my domains were in my Godaddy account. Eventually, all I'll have at Godaddy is a couple of .ws domains that can't (as of yet) be transferred to enom. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I got an email from someone at Godaddy asking me why I was transferring domains out and asking if there was anything that they could do to improve their service.

At least they're on the ball in some areas, heh.

Well, I escaped GoDaddy. I'm all out! I decided to move the domains to registerfly. Their platform has more features and appears less suceptable to database bungling, lockouts, lockdowns, etc.
I use DirectNic for my domains, seems to be quite easy, plus they only charge $5/yr for DNS. I work for a medium sized ISP and I usually had them there for DNS until they started to want like $30 per domain per year, and I guess now they want to start charging for changes?! It's insane...

I transferred all of my 70 names away from godaddy. I was using RegisterFly and Godaddy, after this latest slipup and the fact they denied a problem even existing I said screw it and moved them all to RegisterFly

Was this issue at GoDaddy ever resolved to a satisfactory manner? Did they ever admit to any fault on their part? Just curious as I haven't heard much about this in awhile. I've never used them and hadn't planned to even before this...
Thanks,

All attempts for an honest answer were met with denial of an issue. They once were a great company now they suck.
