Do you mean a server to rent such as a dedicated server or an actual server of your own that you would colocate for example?

What is your budget?

$10-30 a month, it will increse
or $299 for the server to buy

it will not be easy to find server for that price. the best bet is to finance a server from dell and colocate it. this way will cost you 50-60 for colo plus finance of the server.

I do not know of any server going for under $300, even if you are looking for bare minimum specs. You may be able to find a used one for that price.

Not even the basic Celeron 2.4's are going for that cheap. That pricing is going to be hard to find for quality machines. Good luck though.

If your looking to buy a server I would recommend looking at ebay. I bought a 2U off of there for $80 including shipping.

You may want to look into a larger VPS account. You should be able to find one that meets your disk space requirements, and it would probably be less expensive that buying a server and co-locating it.

Be aware that the rental cost of a dedicated server is not just the hardware. In fact, a large part of that monthly fee is staff, cost of network infrastructure, power, environment, etc.

Even if it's a very, very low end server, its rent is mostly those expenses above, and thus, a server in the $30/m range is almost not possible.

If you do find one, honestly, I would stay away from it...

the low budget you have ios better suitable for a VPS. Try that first. Then as you are being assaulted by money pouring in, start thinking about a dedicated:banana: box :)

Hi e-reloaded

Have you considered a VPS (virtual private server)?

This would provide you with almost as much control as a dedicated server and is more within that level of budget.

Thanks

The Planet used to be great, but recently their support has been useless, half hour queue on the phone, to be told to open a ticket, then ticket not being replied to for 8 hours, it's a bit ridiculous. LT are great though, that's where a lot of our servers are at the moment.

bodhost looks to be rather overpriced, and they can't even spell.

- on their dedi page - "Free Sofware Updates"
- $298 for a dual xeon 2.8? - That's a bit overkill price-wise

Take a look at dediwebhost.com they have servers from $45 /mth you may also want to try hivelocity.com who also have low priced servers

The VPS will probably be your best solution based upon your budget. You will have root level access, and will be able to run your server as if it were a dedicated server. You will have to remain aware of your resource allocations though...

Collocation will be fine for a lcompany with lots of long-term projects, as the maintainance costs are also considerable. If you aren't sure you'll need that for that long, go for VPS managed or unmanaged (it's up to your server management skills and free time).

I would suggest going with a VPS from LiquidWeb for the management aspect of their products. Otherwise, take a VPS from another well known provider (do research on this) and then check into PlatinumServerManagment.com for some affordable top-notch management. That is only if you get a cpanel vps.

I feel you would find it very hard to find a server for $30.00 per month this being colocation prices are normally 50+

You should be able to get a server of a reasonable spec for 299$ however there becomes the problem with colo being more than $30 each month

Another cheaper host might be server beach or 1&1. But be careful.... you get what you pay for.

VPS Isn't a bad way to go these days, considering they are a fraction of the cost of a dedicated server but offer similar power.

I would not purchase any server that has less than a Xeon 3000 series chip. Any thing older than this generation is getting to the end of its useful life unless you can be assured that there are new drives/fans.

Check out 1and1 for cheap servers. They run some pretty low priced deals.

Also consider getting a VPS. A VPS on new hardware will often perform as well as a dedicated on old hardware.

Go for a VPS. It'll cost less and give you the control you need, plus you can always upgrade if you need more resources.

After reading through the posts and what your needs are I would really look at doing VPS or Reseller Hosting. The budget that you have for your server is not reasonable but you could find VPS hosting for the monthly pricing that is in your budget.

There are some great deals out there right now for dedicated server hosting you just have to search.
