After reading quite a number of the threads and posts on this forum, I feel I have come to the right place for my rather elementary sounding question. Please take into consideration that I really don't know much about computers.

I have a laptop that is running Windows 98. I have a destop that is running Windows XP. I have a D-Link 524 wireless router and I recently purchased an Airplus G Cardbus Adapter (802.11g/2.4GHz Wireless).

My problem is this: I need to upgrade my laptop to at least Windows 98SE in order to use the wireless adapter. I have read several reviews on Amazon about the 98SE upgrade and about ME and some are overwhelmingly in favor of the upgrade to 98SE and some simply detest it. The same is true for ME.

I am looking for good solid advice on this posing question. Should I go with 98SE or ME or something completely different that I know nothing about?

I eagerly await your sound advice.

Thank you

What are the specs of the laptop? I'd highly recommend staying away from Windows ME. It was a joke and has already been left in the dust by Microsoft. If you can, install Windows XP. Otherwise I'd use 98SE as that wasn't that bad of an operating system.

Yeah, stay away from WinME as much as possible. I stilled it on my old machine (when it came out), and about every hour, I had a blue screen of death, and had to reboot. It didn't last long on that computer, I moved it back to 98SE.

But if you can... install WinXP. You should have no problems installing it. I installed XP on that same computer (that I had 98SE and ME on - it was a 333mhz), back when beta testing was going on, and it did just fine. It actually still has WinXp on it, and still runs fine. As long as you have at least 96mb (they actually recommend 128mb, but mine only had 96mb, and it worked fine and dandy) of ram you'll do fine.
